Both Parents Getting Work
Today, it is getting much more prominent to go abroad to work for both parents. If we look at past times, we can see many families, which consisted of a father who went out to work and a mother who stayed at home and looked after the children. However, it is much more different today and many families think that it is important for both parents to go out to work. This circumstance can affect children both positively and negatively.

Some people believe that children whose both parents go out to work have more access in their everyday life. Because, their parents are able to afford more things such as new clothes, up to dated computers and mobile phones and video games. Moreover, most people think that children can enjoy and get experience from life because of their parents' wealth. For instance, they are able to go abroad on holidays.

On the other hand, there are people who claim that children who are in position like this less likely to get enough support and attention, this means they may not to carry out as well at study. Because there is no one who can provide with support such as to do homework or revision. Furthermore, less attention of parents can make it easier for children to adapt such things as drugs and early alcohol drinking.

To sum up, I think no-one can deny that both parents have to work nowadays. In addition, it is also important to make time for children, and then children will not suffer in any way.
In the past, the man was responsible for taking care of his family’s financial situation. In other words, the man went out to work, while his wife stayed home and looked after her children and did the household duties. However, many things have changes since then, because more and more parents decide to leave their children home alone in order to work. I believe that the desire to earn more money has more drawbacks than benefits.76

The article, “A Tale of Two Summers for Parents” by Belinda Luscombe states that many families have to pick between work and their families. Many don’t know whether they should be able to trust their elementary-school-aged child or have someone take care of them, even if they can’t afford it. As summer comes parents make that choice, but as it turns out they choose work over their kids, not because they don’t love their children but because they need the money in order to pay for someone to take care of them. No child at that age should be left alone, there should be someone with them at all times, due to the fact we never know what can happen and how they should feel the presence of their parents.…

Society today has established numerous new types and definitions of the word “work”. The division of labor has shifted and advanced due to reasons such as globalization and gender equalization. Instead of having to stay at home and do housework, women now have options to pick the kinds of work that they prefer. Women nowadays no longer have to rely on their other half for living because they are capable and well educated. With these changes in social reformation, we have created numerous different family conditions and situations. Arlie Hochschild and Amy Chua discuss in their articles “From the Frying Pan into the Fire” and “Why Chinese Mothers are Superior” the different types of work that mothers have today. Both authors argue that despite some mothers may have to go out for work, parenting is still a form of duty which all mothers have. These two authors described the definition of work differently. However, both authors define their perception of “work” from the same perspective for mothers. It is difficult and complicated for women nowadays to successfully undertake their roles. They believe that the idea of work in today’s society has been broadened and enlarged due to social advancement and feminist reformation. Work can now exists in various forms depending on each and other’s situations. Parenting is indeed no different than working in jobs. For women in both Western and Eastern societies, the idea of work is an obligation. It can either be a job or parenting.…

The article "Family Coping Strategies: Balancing Paid Employment and Domestic Labour" by Meg Luxton sheds a different view on the responsibilities laid out in family life. In today's society it's almost a necessity to have both parents working, to support a family. This fact, along with the improvement of females having independence, is the cause of the ever growing number of working women. These, along with many other statistics are showing the rapid improvement and change that woman and families are showing. Year after year we can see the dynamics of the family shifting. It is not the same anymore, that women are the housewives doing all the housework and childcare. However women still have to work to get the equality, and not have to face "The second shift" once they get home. Husbands need to start stepping up and help out. Workplaces too need to step up, in the sense that they need to try and create better working environments for women. Unions have been formed to try to perfect benefits, and to shed light on the negative aspects they may have. This whole article shows an interesting view on family coping strategies, and gives lots for people to think about.…

Without guidance children do not learn the correct ways to behave. This will cause them to come into conflict at school because they do not know or understand acceptable boundaries. They may be unaware of the dangers they can face in life, if there is a steady stream of strangers coming in and out of their home and life they will not recognise the danger of strangers. They may have a distorted view of their own abilities and may believe that they are allowed to do what they want because they are never prevented. They may believe they are unloved, unimportant and unvalued and as they grow older this could lead to depression and self-harm. The lack of boundaries could result in them becoming involved in crime and anti-social behaviour. Neglect could lead to health problems through malnutrition, recurrent bouts of head lice and skin conditions, a lack of sleep can massively impact a child’s health. They may struggle to form social relationships because of their lack of personal hygiene. Poor clothing could lead to bullying and teasing, causing them to withdraw and become isolated. Poor parental skills also impact a child’s development as they may not be able to feed themselves in a sociable manner they may eat with their hands and are likely to enter school requiring additional personal needs.…

    Second Shift

For my Second Shift assignment the working parents that I interviewed were my own parents. Both of my parents do house work after coming home from work. They have duties that they are expected to do. When something is broken, it is my dad or me that fix it. Me and my dad always carry the heavy things and do the heavy work. Sometimes I do have to do it alone when my parents can’t do it. My mom always cleans and does most of the cooking in the house. When I was a little kid, my mom always made me food and reminded to do my homework. She would be the one to take care of me and wake me up to go to school. From looking at what my mother does on a daily basis I can tell that she does more work in the house than my father. I can see that most women have these kinds of obligations in their households. I also remember reading some information about the different roles in modern households a few years ago. As I read in 2002 the journal "Sex Roles: A Journal of Research" published a study on women and their roles in the family. Their study found that seven out of ten married parents believe child care should be shared equally, but two-thirds of the mothers said they most of the time cared for children.…

Children will be part of different family environments including cultures, religion and ethnic backgrounds. There are many situations that happen outside of school in the pupil’s family lives that the school may not have been informed about these circumstances example: bereavement, break-ups, new sibling, illness or moving house. Anyone of these may affect children’s emotional and intellectual development. Different social environments and backgrounds have a large effect on the development of the child example: a wealthier background could give greater life experiences, more access to play, extra-curricular activities and more opportunities to socially interact. A lower income or single parent family may struggle financial from poverty and deprivation, making them less likely to thrive and achieve well in school. It also affects the way they deal with different situations and respond, limiting their life chances. A wealthy background doesn’t always guarantee a positive environment. The child’s parents could be over-protected and rarely allowed to make their own…

Parents who think that education is not important have a negative input so they don’t encourage their children to get a good education here as a parent who has a good educations ants their child to get the best education and will encourage them to do more. Some parents lack the knowledge and skill to find better opportunities for their children so they don’t always get the best opportunities but parents with the knowledge and skills can give their child better opportunities to develop. Also parents with a lack of ability will not be able to help their children with their homework as well as if those parents had a good education. Children whose parents have no interested in their development will suffer because they won’t be given the support they need where as children whose parents take an interest in their development will develop more because they will be encourage to. The comment is not fair because over the years we could see that parents are now more career-oriented in Singapore. Since the 1980s-1990s, there has been a 93% increase in the numbers of working mothers and fathers. If there is an increase in such a trend of dual working parents, then it signifies that families are not suffering as more families are going towards and keeping such a trend. Moreover, it is unfair to say that due to career being a priority in the family, the family suffers because with two sources of income coming from both parents, the family is able to live a better and much more comfortable life. The family is given much more financial stability and the children will be able to live a more luxurious life. For example, they are not forced to work at such young age like in certain third world countries so as to help raise the family. Children also get the chance to go on holidays and have the opportunity to take up an enrichment course like ballet or art. In the past, men were the sole breadwinner and if he got retrenched, then the family’s livelihood would start disintegrating and fall into serious financial crisis. However, with dual working parents, the family is more stabilized and the probability that the family would fall into a crisis when the father loses his job is lessened. Therefore, the statement is unfair, as with greater emphasis on career in a family, the family will be more stable and…
