Commodore Book’s mission is to make sure Lorain County Community College students, and other patrons, have the easiest, organized access to books and other necessities for school. They make sure they have the most resources available at affordable prices for students, and whoever else may need them.

Section 2.2 Competitive Advantage
 Commodore Books uses their customer excellence to maintain loyal customers. From LCCC sweatshirts and Apple© products, to nursing scrubs and assortments of notebooks, they offer many different brands and merchandise making it easy for each individual customer to find what they need. Whether new or used, they always have the books available in time that are necessary for each semester. Also, most employees at Commodore Books are students; therefore the customer service is always great because it’s usually someone familiar behind the counter or working the floor. There are always plenty of employees there to help you find your way around the store if there is a specific item or brand a customer is looking for.
 This company has efficient operations by making it very easy for students to buy their books and supplies through their financial aid right at the register just by having your student ID ready. It also allows them to buy not only their books, but supplies and clothing too. The book store is very organized in where to find each subject and materials. Commodore Books has a website making it available for students to order books and merchandise online at their convenience.
 Commodore Books definitely use product excellence to sustain their competitive advantage. They offer “Student Value” editions of books which include study guide, loose leaf book, access code, and sometimes a notebook.     The purpose of our research is to figure out the various ways of acquiring a textbook for the University of Cincinnati students. We want to help students minimize the cost of textbooks by helping them compare different options. We also want to find out what are the different options of selling the book afterwards. Our goal is to help students stay cost efficient but also find out convenient and easy methods of attaining the book as well as getting rid of it afterwards. From focus group discussion and interviews, so far, we have found out that the majority of students prefers to buy them online and used, and prefers to resell them afterwards as opposed to renting or other alternatives. We plan to execute more research studies, such as an online survey, to find out more details about what more students prefer and help our classmates with making the right decision.…

    I am disappointed with the SFSU bookstore. I went to the bookstore to buy a Scantron sheet for my final exam in Spring 2016. Whether I went there in the morning or at noon, there was always a long line in front of the checkout counter. I spent at least one hour to buy a Scantron sheet. I really hate to waste so much time in line. There are two checkout counters on the upper floor, I couldn’t understand why they just used only one counter. I suggest you buy a Scantron earlier. Moreover, I am not satisfied with the low inventory of textbooks in the bookstore. In a summer session, I couldn’t buy a textbook I needed immediately. There was only one month in a summer session, it was difficult for me to catch up with the course without the textbook. I had to order the book online, and it took a couple days to arrive. This progress really affected my study. I would recommend to check the inventory of textbooks before a semester begins. I already emailed SF State’s president, I hope that these problems can be solved.…

    These books are then sold used for the next semester, the price varies from the shape of the book and the cost of a new copy of the same. However, if a new edition is scheduled for a future release, the older books cannot be sold back to the bookstore, eliminating the option of buying a used book. As an alternative to buying and selling back books, many retailers are offering a rental system that allows the student to rent a book for the semester and return it after the class is completed, as long as the book is in good shape. However, this can still be quite expensive for the student, as the books for each course must be rented separately and some instructors require more than one book per class. In the early part of the 21st century the University of Wisconsin–River Falls set up a book rental program for it's students. Before each semester starts instructors are instructed to issue a list of books needed for their classes and the college will acquire the needed books, and students are charged a one time fee. This fee is calculated either on the number of credits being taken by a part-time student, or is a flat fee is a full time undergrad. If the students wish to keep the books once the course is completed, they can purchase them at the end of the semester, allowing them to acquire the book at a reduced rate. As of 2013 over 3000 college bookstores have set up this type of program, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education. These programs allow students to save significant amounts of money over the span of their college career. Even the bookstore may make profit off of the system.
