The novel that I am reading is “I’m Not Her” by Janet Gurtler. It is about the struggles a young girl, named Tess, goes through when she finds out that her sister, Kristina, was diagnosed with cancer. Tess has always been looking up to her older sister, because her sister was always the center of the crowd, sporty, beautiful one and Tess was always the smart, un-popular one. It was always hard on Tess, so when her sister was diagnosed with cancer, she felt as if she could finally be known. All of Kristina’s friends started befriending Tess, now that her sister wasn’t at school. Although Tess loved the popularity, she did have a lot of trouble too. Not a lot of people were asking how Tess was doing about the whole cancer situation but there was one person who was always there for her. His name was Clark. After talking days upon days with him, Tess began to want to be more then friends with him. But Tess also knew that she had to be there for her sister and didn’t have time to have a serious love life at that point in time. Then Tess met a boy from school named Jeremy. Jeremy has a little crush on Kristina, but is also now good friends with Tess. Tess was wondering why he would always talk about Kristina, and then he finally informed her that he always hangs out with her at the hospital when he is visiting his mother, who also has cancer.…

Isabel Wilkerson’s The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration delves into the great exodus of Southern blacks to the North from World War I to the 1970s. While this in an already acknowledged period of Southern and American history, the book is still an important source in Southern studies. For one, the book provides students with three extensive firsthand accounts of the period, something they may not have been exposed to before. Meanwhile, some may argue that since a great portion of the stories take place during the lives of the subjects while in the North, that the book technically does not include enough Southern history to be a viable resource.…

Your book Sunny Side Up was a great book. I enjoyed it a lot. This book has taught me the hardships of having a brother that has an addiction to alcohol, but to still somehow stay happy. My favorite part of the book is when Sunny went to Disney World. Sunny was not so excited when she found out that she was going to visit her grandpa in Florida. The upside to that was that Disney World was in Florida, so she was hoping that her grandpa would take her before she left. She ended up finding out that Disney was around two hours from where she was at. This made her sad. A few days before she left, her grandpa had told her that they were going to Disney World. Now she was super excited about this. She went…

In the poem, Tabrizi uses the expression “A Thousand Splendid Suns” to illustrate the beauty of Afghanistan by personifying as a beautiful woman. It is therefore it is ironic that a novel that depicts the destruction of Afghanistan’s culture and the power structure, as in how much they value men to women. In the poem, it says, “May Allah protect such beauty from the evil eye of man!” This along with the concept of female endurance and survival from her own country shows just how corrupt the Afghanistan culture has become from then to now. The title highlights the tragedy of what happen to Afghanistan by making us remember precedent of what happens in the novel. Like the visit to the giant Buddha statues before their…

In the article , “The art of social Criticism : Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the sun ,” the author states that this play was written for those African American families and their struggles to be able to get out of the ghetto on Chicago’s South Side. Lorraine took every chance to engage herself in her everyday life and her literary work being a writer and a student. African Americans were placed in the lower class while some other families were middle class but still placed in the lower class like Lorraine and her family. Even though Lorraine was placed in the lower class that did not affect her , her privilege still did not insulate her from the struggles and anger she was facing. Basically the the reality of the play is the realization…

William Adair's thesis focuses mainly on the central aspect of the novel, The Sun Also Rises, which is gossip. Throughout the novel, The Sun Also Rises, characters such as Jake would spy on others only to have information on the latest. Jake, for instance, was the main contributor about all the gossip, even spreading rumors about his own friend Cohn. Several months had passed before Jake took it upon himself to write a review of Cohn's novel with the intent to find more information to use against him. As readers progress through the novel, they'll slowly realize Jake's stories are not factual as he makes readers turn against Cohn or creates an ugly picture of Cohn's physical appearance. I think an important event in the novel Red Sky In The Morning by Elizabeth Laird is Ben’s birth. This is an important event because Ben is handicapped, which teaches Anna and her family how different life can be and how to cope when you have a disabled child in the family. Ben’s birth triggered a lot of other important events in the novel, such as Anna being scared to tell her classmates about her brother and Miranda finding out about Ben.…
