1. Bibliographic Citation:
McCullough, David, 1776. New York, Simon & Schuster, 2005. Pp., 400
2. Thesis
History teaches us, depicts what we believe in, helps explain what we believe in, and what we ought to be standing for. History is or should be the main component of patriotism, not the hard core type stuff but the real thing, love of the country. We are living in an ear of great change, huge transitions in all aspects of life, nationwide, worldwide, which in turn creates huge tension and uneasiness. But a good thing history shows are a time of change, a time where we learn and we grow. This nation was founded on change and a new beginning. We should embrace these possibilities during these crazy times, able to have a good navigation in what we do with a steady course to help us through times then and times now.
3. Relation to textbook:
From readings and findings, David McCullough gives good explanation of general sections during the time of 1776. He mainly outlines generals and leaders like George Washington and what went on during his time as leader. This is also discussed in our book with details. He though gave greater detail of things that happened and greater depth and research of explanation. His book helps with understanding how the country was built. Compared to our book that we read and understand his book is one to refer to if you are interested in greater detail on certain topics at hand.
4. Strengths and Weaknesses
This book helps bring about a better clear and understanding to topics that not many people go into deep discussion about. He helps give a wider range of information about generals and peoples stories throughout the year of 1776. His audience you could say for this book was a larger scale of scholars, college students for sure and many others who are interested in learning more about history and how things came about. The book though does start off a little slow at the beginning. Trying to bring up the subjects he would be

Achieving success, whether it is in a personal, social, or professional setting, is often the end goal of most human efforts. Most of the time, acquiring that success requires hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Yet it is often difficult to maintain the continual motivation needed to overcome the frequent obstacles and setbacks that litter the road to success. C.P Neck’s and C. Manz’s book, Mastering Self-Leadership: Empowering Yourself for Personal Excellence, explores strategies and tools to strengthen the key attribute that provides sustenance for an individual’s motivation, self-leadership. The tools encompass ideas such as world-altering strategies, natural reward system, and positive thinking. While each is a different, unique technique, they all result in the same outcome: improving one’s self-leadership and motivational skills.…

Kayla Williams’, Love My Rifle More Than You, is unlike any war memoir I have ever heard of or read. Williams was part of the 15% of female soldiers in the U.S. Army. She shares her experiences in the war in Iraq in a courageous way. Everything she says in the memoir is straightforward. She does not hesitate to say anything about what it was like to be a female in the war. The memoir was not only written to inform society of what life was like being a female in the war, but it was also written to empower women everywhere. It seems as though Williams wrote this in order to address the issues that females face being in the army as a major minority to males. She is fearless in the way that she does not try to sugarcoat any of her experiences. She tells every story and aspect of the army exactly how it is without leaving out any details.…

Fever: 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson is a good historical fiction piece because it is based on the actual events of the 1793 yellow fever outbreak in Philadelphia and follows the details of the epidemic in a faithful and believable manner. For example, at the time of the outbreak Philadelphia had thousands of free slaves. This is directly referenced by the book at several points; one of the main characters in the story is free black woman named Eliza who works as a cook at a coffeehouse. Another aspect of the epidemic was controversial treatments that were attempted to cure yellow fever. One of these treatments was bloodletting and was used by characters in the book. When Mattie, the main character, is diagnosed with yellow fever she is taken to Bush Hill hospital, which used successful methods of treatment that resemble the modern treatment of illnesses. The real life hospital was run by Dr. Jean Deveze, whose treatments became so successful that he became a significant figure in eradicating yellow fever. Readers will enjoy this story because of its historical aspects and compelling storyline.…

This is a book about Kargil conflict, which drew world attention in the summer of 1999 owing to the large intrusions by Pakistan across LOC. Pakistan felt it had every chance of internationalizing the Kashmir issue through this conflict. Internationally, this dangerous flare-up led to the isolation of Pakistan, for it had clearly overplayed its hand.…

It is commonplace for military leaders to call a company commanders job the hardest job in the Army. Company Commanders have more to do in one day than they can ever accomplish.
