Book Report 1 Stargirl

StarGirl Book Report
10/15/14

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is one of the most eye opening books I have ever read, it will keep you on your toes, make you think, and show you things you have never seen before. Spinelli dosent just drag you through the pages of Stargirl, he sends you running. Stargirl is a book about a girl who isnt like anybody else, she was homeschooled all of her life until her 10th grade year when she showed up at Mica High school and changed everyones lives. I thought the book opens peoples eyes to how self centered someone can be and how they only think about themsleves. When everyone starts ignoring Stargirl for caring for others besides them it shows you how selfish people can be. In conclusion, The book made me think about my actions and better them, made me open my eyes to how people can feel, and how being you is the best thing you can ever do.

I liked this novel very much because it shows how precious life is, and that drinking and driving is NEVER a good idea. The story makes me realize that with maturity, comes difficult choices, and you must always be wise. Things like this happen every day and people always think, “Oh it won’t happen to me,” but you never know. I would recommend this book to my friends because I think the story line would influence their choices greatly. I think it would give them a better perspective on making good…

Jerry Spinelli’s plots are always so unusual. This book talked about individuality and nonconformity. I mean, there are a lot of books that are similar, but this book has this main character called Stargirl. She is new to Mica Area High School, and she is different than anybody else. At first, she is really popular but later she gets shunned for her differences. The narrator, Leo, is also a Mica High student, and he finds her so different and fascinating. They later become in a relationship, but Leo doesn’t like it because he is shunned as much as Stargirl. So he goes to Archie. Archie is a mentor and teacher to both Stargirl and Leo. He tells Leo to answer only one question: Who’s affection do you value more, hers or them? This part touches me really deeply and I almost cried because this part was really sad. It was also my favorite because this scene finally decided if Leo really did love Stargirl and embrace her individuality. At first, Leo didn’t understand the question, but later when he did, he didn’t want to answer it because he didn’t want to know if his answer was true.…

In the book “First Love” by Melissa Johns, Emily moves to Buffalo, New York from Houston, Texas. On her first day at her new school, she meets Sam who becomes her best friend. She also meets Eric on her first day. Sam tells her how shocked she is that Eric started showing interest in her because his dad says he can’t focus on girls. He says that he has to focus on football and making sure he keeps his full scholarship to Syracuse University. Eric and Emily start hanging out more and more. They had to deal with many problems like an obsessive ex-girlfriend named Janice and Emily’s pregnant step-mom. At the senior prom, Janice surprises both Eric and Emily by kissing Eric and then turning to Emily and telling her that she did it so Eric could be reminded of their first time. Emily was heartbroken because Eric had told her that he never had sex with Janice. They broke up on that night but Eric never stopped trying to get Emily back. He showed up at her house and called her every day for a while until Emily told him to stop. She assured him that it was over. He went off to play football for Syracuse that summer and Emily went to University of Buffalo. They both lived their lives but thought about each other every day. One day Emily realized how stupid it was that she hasn’t forgiven him yet and she showed up at Syracuse one Saturday. They made up and everything was good again. Sam met a boy named Rob and they started dating soon after they met. When things started heating up again, Emily realized she was ready to have sex with Eric. They both knew that it was more than just sex. They loved each other so much. Eric proposed to Emily and she took some time to think about it. As she was thinking she realized that she had made a mistake the week before. She and Eric were unsafe one of the times. Emily went to the doctor and he told her she was pregnant. When Emily told Eric she was pregnant, he proposed to her again. This time she did not hesitate to say yes. That’s where…
