THE BOOK OF ELI

MOVIE REVIEW

The Book of Eli is a film directed by Hughes Brothers, Allan and Allen Hughes, the story was written by Gary Whitta. It was released on March 17, 2010 in the Philippines. The main characters were Denzel Washington as Eli, Gary Oldman as Carnegie, Jennifer Beals as Claudia and Mila Kunis as Solara.

Denzel Washingtons acting was good enough, he portrays a man with a real personality of Eli in the story. A man who has strength to fight and survives all by himself on different struggles on a long journey. While Gary Oldman, Jennifer Beals and Mila Kunis’s acting was also good.

The concept and theme of the movie is good. The movie had a moral lesson that was relevant to religious beliefs, the real plot was amazing. It was an apocalyptic-tale in which Eli was a lone man and he has a task of protecting a hidden sacred book, because that book is their only hope to bring back peace of the world for its future.

But in the beginning I almost predicted that the book is the Holy Bible. Some will kill to have it while Eli will kill to protect it. The part of the movie I liked the most was when Carnegie seen the book in Braille, then Claudia didn’t help him to read it. I really didn’t even notice or realize that Eli is blind.

I also like the location or setting of the movie. It was set to be ancient but as a matter of fact it was the new generation but the people were ignorant, and it was after a cataclysmic war and almost like the world was a wasteland and it was very dangerous. The people were like war freaks because they are fighting for resources.

But what I didn’t like is the concept that the people were so ignorant, I’m just wondering why the people were so ignorant it was unbelievable that they don’t have any idea about God, even a little or a bit. After the war maybe few people survive in it, it is not possible that maybe even one of those who survive didn’t recognize or tell something about

Robert Duvall did an excellent job playing the role as Bull Meecham- or the ‘Great Santini’. He has a very tough love relationship with his family. Then there was Blythe Danner who plays Lillian; she also did an fantastic job with her character. Even though in the book she had red hair, and in the movie she was a blonde, they displayed her as the same woman who has a big heart, and has to help her family get through hard times with him. Last but not least Michael O’Keefe was my favourite character; I was most impressed by his performance in the movie matching so carefully the character in the book. There was a character in the movie that they had left out though- it was Sam Wertzberger, I thought he would have been a great addition to the movie especially because he was such an important character- he showed that people would discriminate against religion. Having Stan Shaw, as Toomer Small in the movie was good because Toomer’s character and what he went through showed how injustice racism…

"It's a lovely story full of love and fun and adventure. I love this classy edition with illustrations that deliberately avoid linkage to the film. There is much more humor in the book than they could get into the film. The humor works very well and the characters are entrañables.Me likes adventures and actions in this book and especially how the book related to the cycle of hero…

Absa's use of untrained actors/actresses works well in this film by giving it a flavor of reality. I would recommend this movie to anyone interested in seeing things from a non-western point of view or anyone wanting to see how different cultures interact and intertwine. If you do not like subtitled/foreign films, I would not recommend this movie unless you have a grasp of the French language. There is some fun poked at the differences involving Islam and Christianity, so if you are not tolerant or can't find humor in religion, you may be slightly offended.…

The movie was very powerful just to learn about hate crime and how it attracted a lot of attention from media as well as public all over the world due to his tragic death. Matthew was the type of person that was very approachable and always put his family and friends first. Even though the death of Matthew Shepard was undeserved I definitely think that some good has come out of it because it made people realize how much violence and hatred there in the world and what it can turn into. This tragedy helped the nation wake up to the fact that hate and discrimination still lives in our communities, schools and families. Mr. Dennis Shepard gave speech in tribute to his son Matthew brought tears in my eyes. I was able to connect and engage to that moment. That moment touched me so much that I couldn’t stop crying.…

The main character is Elie himself as a young boy. Elie is a Hungarian Jew who deeply believes in his religion. When the novel starts he is only 13 years old. Elie is a very hardworking, determined student of faith and an honest boy who tries to do the right things even though it is not the easy thing to do. Elie interacts with the other characters as someone who must take care of everyone else and sometimes neglects to take care of himself when he is helping others. When you compare Elie with his father you see many similarities. For example, both elie and his father try to help others before themselves even when it is a fight for survival. They both also do not express their feelings, even to people they trust the most. Elie compared with his friend Moishe, they are similar in their devotion to learn about their religion. They are different because Elie was strong and Moishe was weak when the war started.…

From the beginning of the book, it strikes me how brave and passionate Elie Wiesel is. To be a 13-year-old boy and studying the Jewish religion intensely at time when it was dangerous to be Jew shows great passion and dedication to me about his character. His bravery is also shown when on the train to Birkenau and in Auschwitz when in front of his father he continues to stay strong. Reading about how the Jewish people of Sighet had housed Nazis reminds me of the hospitality certain Native American tribes gave to the settlers and the settlers abused that generosity like the Nazis did.…

Denzel Washington is spectacular. Rarely have I ever seen an actor that so consistently turns in a good performance. But surprisingly it is Will Patton, who plays Washington's white assistant coach Atley Jackson who really steals the film. Atley Jackson is a humble man, someone not used to going with the flow, someone who tries to make everyone happy, who seeks the path of least resistance. But for the first time…

Elie Wiesel in the novel, Night, illustrates how his life went during, arguably, the worst time in recorded history, the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel was born in Hungary, 1928, and was the age of 15 when he first was sent to auschwitz. He went thru many devastations during his time in the Holocaust and with him being one of not so many people to survive this period of time he’s able to tell his story now. Elie’s father, Shlomo, was another huge character in this book. He was a Jewish leader and had to go threw the Holocaust knowing everything he worked for is being destroyed and ripped from his hands and there's nothing he could do about it. Although Elie tries his best to keep his father's hope alive. Due to the Holocaust Elie had to go threw changes such as His whole family, religion and Race be destroyed and taken from him in a short period of time, and he went thru terrible living conditions and a overall bad way to live.…

Glory. At first glance it may just seem like your average civil war movie; but Glory entails so much more. With emotional trauma and so much more, this film goes beyond the battlefield and into the personal lives of soldiers and generals; the story gives viewers an in-depth look at what really happened during the war. The film was influential and well-written; really conveying the thoughts of the people involved in the war during the time. Being both enthralling and emotional, Glory went above and beyond my expectations.…

It is very difficult for a young teenager to keep faith in a God during a crisis. This can be very well shown in Elie Wiesel’s novel Night. This novel is a personal, first person account of a young child, named Eliezer, and his time in a concentration camp with his father. It shows how Elie’s faith, once strong and incredibly vibrant, becomes almost nothing. Be it through the loss of faith one of his mentors has, or seeing human bodies burn around you, or seeing a helpless young boy, trying to get air as his body hangs from a noose. All choices and decisions, though have a starting point, and Elie’s starting point was when one he looks up, began to lose faith in the lord God.…

He got to prove, not only to his dad and family, but to himself. He finally received what he thought the good end of the deal was. I personally loved this movie. I had never seen it before so I enjoyed trying to see the perspective I was looking at. I received a deeper understanding as to why he was so determined and why his values seemed to be so important to him. I noticed that although he was going through so much, he stuck by his own and believed in himself. When I used conflict to observe Fortune, he caught me as the conflict…

Not at all what I expected. I loved the story, from beginning to end. I was elated then sad, then elated then sad again. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. To be utterly poor, to unbelievably wealthy and to hell and back again, all in search of his love. This was a totally cool story. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I loved the way the story ended, with each and every one of them, learning to live with what they have and that what little they have is enough, especially after what they had all been through. Thinking one and the other was dead only to find them alive again, and in the end, just learning to appreciate one another’s company and to “cultivate their garden”. All of their life lessons learned, really gave them some introspect as to what life really has to offer and what is truly important to them. This story was amazing. I wanted him to go back to El Dorado if he were able to find his way back. I kept…
