Boo Radley Quotes Analysis
I will be predicting whether or not Boo Radley will be seen in the book. I predict neither Jem or Scout will see Boo Radley in the flesh. First of all most people of Maycomb has not seen Boo Radley. It would be very unlikely for Scout or Jem to have seen him. In the book, on page 13, it states that “ Mr.Radley's boy was not seen again for fifteen years”. This shows that Boo Radley has not been seen out of his house for 15 years. Another quote from the book on page 10 says “ People said he existed, but Jem and I had never seen him” and another quote is “ Boo Radley was heard from and was seen by several people, but not by Jem” on page 13. Another reason that Jem and Scout will not see Boo Radley is that they are scared of him. No one approaches the Radley house even their life depended on it. In the story Scout herself says “ if he wanted to get myself killed, all Jem had to do was go up and knock on the front door” on page 16. Stating that people of Maycomb believe that the house is like the Devil's Gate. Another quote is from the book states that not “ A negro would not pass the radley place at night, he would cut across to the sidewalk opposite and whistle as he walked”. Even the toughest of people we're scared to walk pass the house. Lastly, there are many of Boo Radley not facts. They are all just stories people in the town made. One of the quotes that can back up this statement is “Radley pecans can kill you” (Lee 11) . Obviously this is some legend the town of Maycomb believe. Another example of this is when Scout said on page 10 “ people's azaleas froze in a cold snap, it was because he breathed on them. the people of Maycomb even believe that Boo walks around like a zombie at night peeking through your window. This can be false information coming from people in the town like Stephaine
