Documentaries are created with the intent of showcasing the truth, however, they influence audiences by using various shots, footage and stills to present a carefully constructed version of reality. The documentary “Through a Blue Lens” (1999), directed by Veronica Mannix, was created to showcase to teen aged students the less romanticised side of drugs, and presents three representations; drug addicts, the police and the down-town east side of Vancouver, known as “skid row”. The main group represented in “Through a Blue Lens” are drug addicts.…

1912 was just born. All six of the gang were, like usual, sitting by the town’s post office’s compound wall, neatly dressed, and waiting for the ladies to come out of the neighbouring tailoring class. And Andy in particular, was certainly the most nervous amongst them six. He had decided that he was going to talk to her that day. And for this one meeting, he had written, rewritten and practiced a baker’s dozen times, what he was going to say to her. But the moment she came out with her friends, the moment he saw her, he went blank. Lucille and her friends walked past the gang and as Andy had hoped, Lucille was walking in the extreme left, farthest from him. He walked up to her from behind and called her. She turned…

On December 18, 2015 I had heard once that day that it was snowing. That crisp, pure snow was falling right outside the theater where 50 dancers, including myself, were rushing to get ready. I didn’t get to see it that day, but I wish I had. I was with two of the best friends you could ever ask for. Each of us was dressed in our own version of an 1800's party dress, like we always are when we preform Tchaikovsky's Classic Nutcracker. Abby's having an odd flower design over deep burgundy, Jadyn's had a full blue dress with an abnormal piece of cloth working as a chest plate, and mine could be used as a purple and gold checker board based on the pattern. Abby, Jadyn, and I were setting up the last of our props when we realized that a doll was missing.…

December 25, 1774: Christmas Day. My father has given me a most precious gift today, this diary. He has encouraged me to record my thoughts and experiences in this book. I think my father knows we are living through changing times. The old ways and harmony with our mother country are beginning to fray. He has told me that one day, when I am an old man, I will look back and reflect on all that has occurred during my life and be amazed. I wonder if he is right……

The second-largest art museum in the country, the Art Institute houses treasures and masterpieces from around the globe, including a fabulous selection of both impressionist and post-impressionist paintings. The theme I decided to pick was called the Holiday Thorne room. The Holiday Thorne room has the most magnificent displays including descriptions of holiday objects that were labeled as historic from previous ownerships. Some artifacts took us all the way back to Germany and China which sparked the room for the holiday spirit. The 68 dollhouse-like rooms, built on a scale of one inch to one foot, display what rooms around the world looked like in different historical eras. The curator name was Lindsay Morgan, and said adding the Christmas decorations was a lot of work. Morgan says she spends months researching the holiday traditions for each room. Last year on NBC’s Today show, they had labeled the Art Institute’s most popular attractions. As I was absorbing the room’s beauty, I took note on how the rooms were specially made for holiday fineries that showcases historical traditions. Also they had offers on the window into seasonal festivities. New to the decorating tradition this year is the Pennsylvania Dutch (German) room. And, for the first time in 50 years, an original German Rococo room will be displayed in the same Thorne room.…

With Williams’ passionate but calm introduction to the text, came the first instance of symbolism with his description of the “Blue Piano.” In scene 6, the Varsouviana Polka music is introduced, resembling aspects of emotion as well. Firstly, The Blue Piano embodies fear. As the scene starts to foreshadow a future occurrence of domestic violence, the music appears to reach a crescendo. Similarly, this also occurs when the characters enter a scene of panic or anxiety. As a prime example, the opening of scene two states “Stanley enters the kitchen from outside, leaving the door open on the perpetual “blue piano” around the corner”. Setting the mood for the scene, Stanley embarks on his rage of fury as he frantically peruses Blanche’s suitcase,…

The task assigned is a review of the book Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen. I will provide examples and summarize the main concepts of the book to include Intimate Partner Violence, Battering, and Intimate Terrorism. I will reference the text Family Violence, Across the Lifespan by Ola W. Barnett, Cindy Miller-Perrin, and Robin D. Perrin in order to support my theoretical claims. I will select a critical part of the book and explain why it was challenging to read and understand based on my perspective, and then select a character to analyze using one of the theoretical perspective. This book is sad and disturbing, the punishment inflicted on Fran by her husband Bobby Benedetto is unacceptable and criminal, but unfortunately, is probably a more common occurrence than we care to acknowledge.…

Scandinavian casino software providers Net Entertainment have done an absolutely top notch job of working the traditional aspects of Christmas into a modern-style video slot. The graphics are wonderful, the audio is very Christmassy, and the gameplay is everything we have come to expect, know, and love about NetEnt. There is every reason to believe that this is going to be the number one Christmas slot this year. There is no definitive releases date just yet, but one would imagine that Net Entertainment are going to want to get this one out early, before other competitors decide to jump on the Christmas…
