Blossoming Into Adulthood
Someone or something one way or another has affected everyone. Similar to everyone else, I’ve had my own share of events that have affected me deeply. Throughout the past three years, the events I’ve been through have shaped the person I am today. Looking back to my first year of high school, teachers were always saying how fast high school will go by and the next thing you know you’re in college on your way to a new life. This is why many of my freshmen teachers focused on researching what career field we wanted. Researching the career I wanted was easy for me because I’ve known what I wanted to do for many years. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to follow my father’s footsteps into the Navy. Since I grew up around military figures, I already knew many of the requirements in order to enlist in the Navy, and the benefits the Navy would give you. Although, there is always more information needed to know before committing to something for years or maybe even life in adulthood.
In my first year of high school, I took a Kuder assessment and wrote a research paper on my future in the Navy. The Kuder assessment is created to help students discover a career that would fit their interests based on a series of questions. The Kuder assessment said I would do well in a career that involves helping others. This was relevant to the career I wanted in the Navy. When I wrote my research paper, I interviewed Naval officers in San Diego, CA. They gave me useful information about becoming an officer in the Navy and the salary difference from going to college first then joining, rather than enlisting right after high school. In my second year of high school, I took the ASVAB for the first time, and received a national award in JROTC from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The ASVAB is a test that measures
