Blackbeard: Edward Thatch Or Edward Thatch
Although it is uncertain the true name of Blackbeard is believed to be something along the lines of Edward Teach or Edward Thatch and less commonly the name Drummond has been thought to be relevant, though it is doubtful whether his real know will ever truly be known. Very little is known about Blackbeard’s early life although he is thought to have been born in Bristol England sometime around 1680.
It is believed that he was a privateer or sailor during Queen Anne’s War and settled on the Bahamian island of New Provence around 1716, New Provence was a base for the pirate Captain, and eventually pirate hunter Benjamin Hornigold. Edward joined Hornigold’s crew and was placed in command of a ship that they had captured; they engaged in numerous acts of piracy and quickly became feared and notorious pirates. He is very well known for his tactics of intimidation, he was a tall and large man standing about 6`5 and weighing 220 pounds.
