Black Lives Matter Movement Persuasive Speech
We have these alleged inalienable rights that let us express ourselves in many ways and anytime anyone displays the use of these rights people get outraged. Lately we've been going through this movement, Black Lives Matter Movement, and people have been protesting, but not getting very good results until now; when a Famous Football star decides to sit during the national anthem. He didn't sit to insult people or to disrespect the flag, but instead draw attention to the fact that innocent people of color are getting murdered. This sparked a monumental debate topic that needed attention and this topic even got presidential eyes on the matter. If he wouldn't have made a statement that got through to everyone, then no one would've paid attention.

It has been argued that Colin Kaepernick kneeling while the National Anthem is playing, is absolutely ridiculous, is not showing support for love of this country, and not showing support to the veterans. In “The Perilous Fight,” Jim Brown, a NFL Hall of Famer and a civil rights activist. Told Time, “I would not do anything that has to do with respecting the flag or the national anthem. I don’t think it’s appropriate.” In other words Jim Brown would challenge the normal of standing for the Anthem, no matter the severity of the situation. For this reason opponents argue that Colin Kaepernick kneeling down is not right for him to be testing the flag; but it’s not also right for the police of America to be able to go on a killing spree and have…

The take a knee movement is not the first protest the National Anthem has seen, it is just the latest in a long history of “unpatriotic behavior.” Perhaps the most infamous protest was a result of the black power salute held by Tommie Smith and John Carlos in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, “they didn’t [take a knee]. Instead they raised a fist” (Brown). The Civil Rights movements of the 1960s and 1970s were a time of upheaval for various minority groups of American society, including the black rights movement. Holding a fist instead of placing a hand over the heart got the gold and bronze medals respectively strip from Smith and Carols, for calling attention to real problems that still exist in our country. These brave men “wore beads and a scarf to protest lynchings. And when the national anthem was played, they lowered their heads in defiance and raised their fists in a Black Power salute that rocked the world” (Brown). These acts of defiance have set a stage for other individuals to speak out again the injustice plaguing our society. The downplay of such circumstances is unpatriotic and inhumane, more so than refusing to stand during the National…

These actions were viewed in all different way and from all different types of people. From your everyday fan to players, coaches, owners and even the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump. And not everyone was in favor of Kaepernick choice to protest during the National Anthem. “I agree that America is not perfect. I agree that there are a lot of issues with minorities in this country. And I agree that we should do something about it. But I don't know if the most effective way is to sit down when the National Anthem of a country that has provided you freedom and is provided you $60 million a year is the best way to do it, when there are black minorities that are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan that are protecting our freedom for less than $20,000 a year” (Alejandro Villanueva, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman, Aug. 29, 2016). But the biggest moment during the last 13 months happened on September 22 2017 when president Donald Trump stated “Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects the flag, to say get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He's fired. He's fired”. This single quote would spark outrage…

Colin Kaepernick risked his entire career through taking a knee during the National Anthem over a year ago. In an article titled, Kaepernick is asking for justice, not peace, author Bomani Jones states that Kaepernick “didn’t take his stand in a crowd surrounded by thousands. He sat alone, wearing a red, white, and blue shield on his jersey”. Kaepernick risked everything, alone, with no one beside him, and showed just how much he was willing to risk to stand for what he believed in.…

“I have a dream…” once said a very heroic man who went by the name Martin Luther King Jr. The world suffers from racial injustice even after huge sacrifices by people who stood up for what’s right. A movement called “Black Lives Matter” nowadays starts conversation and creates more knowledge on the sensitive topic. Many laws should be tweaked so it’s no longer uncorrupt, benefiting and protecting us people.…

I never believed that one race could be suppressed by the media so much until 2016 came around. Today, the media quickly goes to the scenes with no time to ever really think about what they want to truly say. Through all of the written scripts and tv monitors, most opinions are filtered to give the people what they want to hear. People today are focused more on the dream of “perfect houses and nice lawns… Memorial Day cookouts, block associations, and driveways” rather than living in the moment (Coates 11). In today’s society, football players are denying the request of standing for our national anthem out of respect of their heritage and pursuing their idea of a dream. This issue intersects the idea of a white man’s dream and parallels Coates’s thoughts on how his family “would not stand for their anthems” (Coates 28). Colin Kaepernick, a NFL football player, started this movement by deciding to sit while our nation’s anthem played through Levi’s Stadium. Ali Farka Toure, a Malian prince in one of Martin Scorsese’s films, states that there are no black Americans, but only blacks in America who left their culture. If someone proves this issue to be true, why are the athletes so offended by the wrongdoings of this country? “God gives ambitions to all of us” but out of respect for the people fighting overseas, the people who took their lives for our freedom, and the families who will never see their loved ones again, the least these citizens could do is stand for a two minute chorale…

Kaeprnick says he sat down during the national anthem because of the racism acts happening against the black community, as shown with all the recent cop shootings. I am not saying that some cops will not target blacks, nevertheless there are numerous respectful ways in which an individual could take a stand without causing countless other problems. No one should disrespect their country, no matter the reason. Accordingly, it does not help when groups of individuals run around destroying cities by rioting. If these individuals keep making more of a mess of this subject, then it will never become better. If a cop targeted someone in my family and killed them, I would become irate, so I can understand how these families might feel. Making a peaceful stand would create a greater impact than the rioting that countless individuals has done as of late. These individuals should not allow their feelings to affect their ability to perceive the outcome of their actions.…

At the Black Matters Conference, I had the opportunity to see an interview with Lezley McSppaden, the mother of Michael Brown who was a victim of police brutality. During the time period of the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Power movement police brutality was always an issue. Today we see that this issue is most cases has not yet been solved. Although in the earlier years it consisted of a lot more violence. For example, police officers helping out white rioters by supplying weapons, using violent acts to disperse crowds, and also ignore the different crimes of whites on people of color. The types of police brutality or being treated with inequality led to rebellions against authority. The acts of rebellions can be seen in the Black Panthers.…

Argumentative Speech Good morning ladies, here we are in the year 1904, surrounded by multiple ideas of who should do what and what one shouldn’t do. Thing is that's just a matter of ideology, as I stand here and instruct you all in behalf of us (the Negro women) I don’t understand, nor settle to the idea of having limited amount of resources each of us “can” do. For example the jobs we are allowed to conduct and how only very little of us can actually become a professional. Perhaps not being able to take self decisions on what we may desire, has always been a huge controversial topic in the other races.…
