Biography Of Maya Angelou
I chose Maya Angelou. I chose her because she is an inspiration to me. She has lived a hard life but battled through and that is really inspiring. Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her birth name was Marguerite Ann Johnson but she changed her name to Maya Angelou in her twenties. She was the daughter of Vivian and Bailey Johnson. In 1931 after her parents divorced, her and her brother had to go live with their grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. Maya was a skinny black women with nappy black hair and blue eyes. She had small squinty eyes with a gap between her teeth that could hold a #2 pencil. In 1937, Maya got sexually abused and raped by her mother's boyfriend, Mr. Freeman. She doesn't feel like she is good enough for anyone and she is embarrassed about how she looks. She also gets judged and made fun off a lot because she is black. Everyone treated her different because just because she was black and everyone stared at her because she was different and that didn't help with how she already felt about herself, it just made her insecure. Maya Angelou is an author, poet, actress, dancer and a singer. Maya was a born leader with lots of determination. She didn't allow anyone or anything to stand in her way of accomplishing her goals. She also becomes very irritated when things don't go her way. I chose Maya Angelou because she is a very unique person, she is very determined to accomplish her goals and to do what is right. She has been an amazing inpiration to millions of people, she lived a long, hard life but made the best of everyday. Maya once said ¨ You will face many defeats in your life, but never let yourself feel defeated.¨ I think that is amazing that she still has the courage to say that after everything that she went
