Binomial Probability Distribution
#1 True or false: Even if the sample size is more than 1000, we cannot always use the normal approximation to binomial.

Solution:

If a sample is n>30, we can say that sample size is sufficiently large to assume normal approximation to binomial curve.

Hence the statement is false.

#2

A salesperson goes door-to-door in a residential area to demonstrate the use of a new Household appliance to potential customers. She has found from her years of experience that after demonstration, the probability of purchase (long run average) is 0.30. To perform satisfactory on the job, the salesperson needs at least four orders this week. If she performs 15 demonstrations this week, what is the probability of her being satisfactory? What is the probability of between 4 and 8 (inclusive) orders?

Solution

p=0.30

q=0.70

n=15

k=4

    Naked Statistics: Stripping the Dread from the Delta by Charles Wheelan breaks down the Lebron James of statistics. The Central Critical Theorem is able to draw somewhat precise conclusions from small amounts of data. The Central Critical Theorem is the power source for many of the statistical activities that involve using a sample to make inferences about a large population. Wheelan dissects the theorem by using multiple examples to support the claim that the theorem only works if large samples of data are collected.…

    The sample was appropriate for this study. The thumb rile says n>100 and we have samples size of n>500. Therefore since the size is more than the thumb rule then the sample was appropriate for the study. There are possible limitations to this study. These limitations are that after calculation we cannot define which vaccine is better. Assuming by thumb rule that data follow normal distribution, there’s no evidence that it actually follows approximated normal distribution.…

    Abstract: How does the physical makeup and size of an organism relate to various activities an organism perform is a topic many people curious about. We wanted to find out if there was any relationship between the body size of woodlice and their speed. We hypothesized that the bigger woodlice have higher speed than smaller woodlice. We conducted an in-class experiment to test our hypothesis. We took ten woodlice and divided them into two groups: smaller and bigger woodlice. Each woodlouse was then let to run for 10 cm and time taken to reach the destination was recorded. Finally, when all woodlice completed running, we conducted a t-test. The value of ‘P’ from our test was 0.8956 which is larger than 5% level of significance. Since our value of P was larger than the 5% level of significance, we rejected our hypothesis and accepted the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis was that there is no relationship between the body size of woodlice and their speed. The findings from this experiment can be useful in determining and studying relationship between physical size and activities performed by many animals,…
