He founded Microsoft Corporation in 1975 with a high school friend named Paul Allen. The leadership role that he serves is chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corporation. Up until 1998, Gates was CEO of the company, but he relieved himself of those duties, and currently is only a software architect and serves on the Microsoft committee. He currently is involved in all the new creations of new Microsoft technology and products. Microsoft is currently the most powerful computer company on the face of the planet. They create everything from video games and personal pc’s to even cell phones. Bill Gates is also well known for being one of the richest human beings on the face of the planet. Bill Gates was born October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He has two sisters, his father William H. Gates II, who was an attorney, and his mother Mary Gates who was a schoolteacher. He married on January 1, 1994 to Melinda French Gates, and currently has three children. He went to a public school until the seventh grade, when he enrolled in Seattle’s private school, Lakeside School. At Lakeside School, Gates met Paul Allen, who would later be the co-founder of Microsoft. At the age of thirteen, Bill Gates was first introduced to computers and the different program languages. Lakeside School purchased a Teletype machine which was connected to a mainframe over the phone line. This school was one of the very first in the entire country to allow students to have access to computer devices. Students at Gates’ school convinced a local computer company to allow them to study a minicomputer made by Digital Equipment Corporation. Gates and his friends would study the minicomputer and try to discover any malfunctions or problems with the device. While studying the minicomputer, Gates

I consider Bill Gates and Steve Jobs to be the greatest leaders in American business. Over the past 25 years, technology was the industry of choice for many of the top business people. Microsoft 's Bill Gates and Apple’s Steve Jobs both exemplify the explosion in that realm. Gates, Microsoft chairman and world 's richest man, is the No. 1 business leader of the past quarter-century for his mix of entrepreneurial energy, dogged leadership and philanthropic interest. The points that make them great leaders are the fact that they were both great visionaries. For example Bill Gates vision was that “Every business and household must have a computer and must run Microsoft software” while Steve Jobs vision was “to make the best devices in the world, not to be the biggest”. Other important point was the fact that they considered failures to be learning lessons. Bill Gates quoted in one of his conferences that “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning”. Another important point that distinguishes them from being managers is the ability to recognize an opportunity and the ability to capitalize on that opportunity. Inspiring trust within the employees of an organization is also a key feature of a leader, a feature that was well executed by both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. It was there leadership qualities as well as their managerial skills that enabled them both to be huge business successes.…

To become one of the most influential people in the world, Gates had to have the work ethic and determination to get there. With great work ethic he started, as a child, with debugging computers for local people in his town (“Gates, William Henry, III” 1). This also started his love for computers, and as he researched and started figuring computers out he became more skillful with them. After he started debugging computers, he began to dabble in writing software programs, his first program that he and his friends made was a computerized payroll system for his high school (“Gates, Bill” 1). He and his friends then proceeded to make more complicated programs, such as Traf-O-Data, which was a traffic counting program that Gates and his partner Paul Allen sold to the city they lived in for $20,000 when they were just fifteen years old (“William H. Gates” 1).…

I chose Bill Gates as my man of magnitude because of all the things he has done for education, global healthcare, and extreme poverty stricken countries. What I relate to with Bill Gates is that technology has become so relevant in education. In schools that cannot keep up with the ever evolving technology, the students will fall behind and not have all the same opportunities that students in more affluent areas may have. Bill and his wife, Melinda, are the founders of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which gives many grants including the expansion for immunization for children, Improvements in seed and soil for African farmers, and multiple libraries.…
