Bilingualism in Indonesian Schools

Language education is one of the primary educations in human’s early learning. A good mind is build by a good language structure, so bilingualism is the important thing that should be emphasized in human’s life. However, to apply bilingualism in education, people need to spend more money because it is more expensive than regular education system. In Indonesia, there are several schools that applying bilingualism in their education system, but they are mostly located in big cities in areas which have high economic condition. However, in other areas that have low economic condition, people have a tendency to have their children to enter the school that is not applying bilingualism in the education system because of its cheap fee, so it is not possible to apply bilingualism in all areas in Indonesia. In this paper, I will emphasize the reason about why bilingualism will not work if it is applied in all areas in Indonesia.
Bilingual education is an education method in school which involves using two languages in instruction. Bilingualism is important for both language majorities and minorities for cognitive, social, and psychological aspects. By applying this method in schools, student expected to have a good result in those aspects. Research conducted by Bialystok (1999) has indicated increased concentration abilities among bilinguals, Hakuta and Diaz (1985) found a connection between the level of bilingual proficiency and cognitive flexibility, and Kovacs and Mehler (2009) discovered enhanced executive functioning among bilinguals. However, it is not easy to make people sure that bilingualism is important for their children. Yes, It is because the expensive cost of bilingual education in school. Schools that apply bilingualism needs more money to effort so many things that support the appliance of bilingualism.
One of reason lies on the teachers. Teachers hold the crucial role in conveying bilingualism in classrooms. Teachers
