Big Mama Presley Comparison
Both pieces of music have similiarities but they also both have big differneces. One of the major and biggest differences between Big Mama Thornton and the Presley version is that Big Mama Thornton foregrounds the lyrics in her track while carefully enunciating and phrasing the words so that the listener can clearly hear the words.. Presley, on the other hand, simply makes the lyric a melodic line - he is happy to add vocal effects and whoops which add nothing to the story. Big Mama is also meticulous in delivering the risqué overtone of 'you may wag your tail' - whereas Presley carefully removes the sexual reference, replacing it with the frankly meaningless 'you ain't never caught a rabbit' which doesn’t make the lines worth them anymore.

The show’s leading couple, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz (native of Santiago de Cuba, Cube) had already been married for nearly ten years when they brought their idea to CBS for a “modern family” kind of show that was comedic, but also a portrayal of everyday life in the 50s. It was actually originally turned down by producers for being too “exogamous”. The culture then was still very segregated and conservative, and interracial couples were almost taboo. Both of these artists grew up seeing and living a life filled with violence. Gunshots and drive-byes, death and murder were a daily occurrence. Although the lyrics of both artists are simply telling their life stories and how hard it was to grow up in their “hoods” they contain vulgar, hateful, and sexual verses that send the wrong message to their listeners. Whether these listeners are teens or adults, white or black, they are continually sending notions of hatred and fear through their lyrics and actions. Ultimately, their lyrics, actions, and creation of the East coast West coast rivalry began promoting violence to whoever hears, listens, or watches them.…
