Big Five Personality Traits Mary D. L. (Lorrie) Allen Organizational Behavior Dr. James J. Kolacek February 3, 2013 Strayer University

The Big Five model is a personality theory that describes personality using five basic traits. Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism make up this theory. An easy way to remember this is with the acronym OCEAN (Whitehead, 2013).
The first trait is openness to experience. Showing the trait openness to experience is about those people that are open and appreciate music, art or poetry. It even relates to those people who are very creative. People with openness to experience have an intense imagination (Unknown, 2013). People with this sort of trait are open to new things and ideas and able to see things differently as other people view them. Open people tend to let their imagination guide them through life and also it was a way they make decisions. Other people can view them as complex or conventional which isn’t always a bad quality. This just goes to show that everyone has their ups and downs. Openness to experience people will contribute to performance because they are willing to try new things and make a job simpler or fewer steps and that can always lead to better results in life (Unknown, 2013).
The second trait is conscientiousness. When conscientiousness comes to mind most people think very organized and neat and the average conscientiousness person will tend to keep their homes, workplace and vehicles very organized and clean (Whitehead, 2013). They are reliable in the work environment and tend to work too much and become workaholics. They have a want, need and desire to achieve in everything they do and tend to make impulsive
