Science Versus Technology: Which has a Greater Impact upon Humanity to date Science can be defined as the acquisition of knowledge through systematic processes that include thorough observations and numerous experiments. Science seeks to understand observable natural facts. The systems used in science help describe different natural phenomena. Science helps us understand and gain more knowledge in certain fields. Conversely, technology can be defined as the practical application of scientific discoveries. Technology refers to the tools used to help us accomplish daily tasks. The two grand endeavors are related in that science helps in development and acquisition of knowledge. Technology helps prove the validity of scientific methods. The technology uses the acquired scientific knowledge to serve a particular purpose. According to (Oberdan, 1-10), “the goal of technology is to apply scientific knowledge for some particular reason. New scientific findings may result to new technologies; new technologies may upsurge the aptitude of scientists to search for new knowledge” (Quizlet.com p1). Science has a greater impact upon humanity than technology in our daily lives. The reason behind this is because science has helped mankind discover many natural phenomena around him. Science seeks to understand new knowledge and that always has a great impact on the life we live. Through science, man discovered tools to make work easier and make new inventions and advancement in technology. Science encompasses different activities we do daily and through it, we can understand our world better. To help us understand better the importance of science, the essay looks through various sectors that Science has been used to make our lives more comfortable and worth living. First, Science is interwoven with our lives, and we cannot do without it. Through Science, scientific inventions like electricity have helped the world be a better place to live in. From the time electricity was discovered, science has helped us gain steady knowledge on the importance of electricity. In the 18th century, Ben Franklin’s studies of statics and lighting enabled the scientific discovery of electricity. Alessandro Volta discovered the battery. The aforementioned scientific discoveries formed a basis for more inventions in the use of electricity. Further studies enabled scientists understand the relationship between electricity and magnetism. In our daily lives, electricity is used in house appliances like television sets, telephones, and lighting. Electricity has continued to be a fundamental need in our lives since a lot of scientific inventions use electricity. Other than its use in the houses, electricity is used in the production of goods and provision of services. The produced goods and services serve to benefit the consumers who need them in their lives. Through science, electricity has been used in lighting and security systems to ensure the safety of human lives. Electric fences and security cameras have been invented by use of science. Science has been used in modern Agriculture to increase productivity in the sector. Development of modified products through science has led to the invention of resistant crops and increased yields. Science has significantly changed what we eat today. In 1940’s biologists in conjunction with chemists developed high-yield varieties of crops which could be combined with fertilizers and increase the amount of food production. Scientific inventions in agriculture ushered in the green revolution significantly affecting the economic structure of the agricultural practices. The inventions in agriculture ensure a steady supply of food in the ever growing population in the world, making science a vital element in the life of humans. In medicine, science is fundamental to the survival of mankind. Vaccines were discovered in the 18th century. The first scientist to prove that vaccines worked was Edward Jenner. In the early 19th century, scientists and doctors established the theory that germs cause many diseases. Due to continued scientific research, doctors discovered the first antibiotics in the 1920s. Science has significantly contributed to the development of modern medicine. Discoveries in the field of drugs led to the eradication of killer diseases like small pox. Also, scientific knowledge enabled man to learn the prevention of diseases and nutrition deficiencies. In our daily lives, we use science to prevent some diseases in our environment. People through science have learned about the importance of hygiene and strive to achieve this each day. Through scientific knowledge, people can dress minor injuries and emergencies through first aid. Due to our interactions with the environment, we may get injured, knowledge on first aid can help one dress the wounds and avoid further infections. In case of poisoning, nose bleeding, one can administer first aid before consulting a doctor. Modern medicine has greatly benefited from previous knowledge in science. Without science, many people would not be alive today; they would have fallen to otherwise treatable infections.
Scientific knowledge has helped improve the quality of life at different levels. Science influences knowledge in public policy, the economy, transportation, health, and agriculture.

Through basic scientific knowledge, people have come up with advanced technology to help in making life better. Because of science, sophisticated devices have been invented to help mankind. Devices like vehicles, planes and X-ray machines are as a result of scientific advancements. On the contrary, science cannot be proved without technology. From the definition, technology employs justified beliefs from science concerning organizational systems for achieving worthwhile solutions to concrete problems. To this effect, technology affects our daily lives. In the current world we live in, technology is vital in our day-to-day living. To start with, globalization has been brought about by technology. Through it, the world has become a global village. People use the internet day-to-day to reach out to friends and family. Social networking has enabled people to have close ties. More importantly, business transactions no longer require physical presence between the people. Through internet technology, one can pay bills, book flights, tickets at the comfort of one’s home. Banking and financial institutions have started to use computerized services to make it easier for their customers. ATM machines and other E-banking systems are used worldwide at any time. Also, governance has been made easier by technology. In our daily living, we need security and technology has enabled the use of close monitoring systems to curb crime and enhance security. Additionally, technology helps in the advancement of the education sector. Learning is a daily activity. Through advanced technology, learning has been made easier. Research materials and facilities are readily available ensuring that students acquire the knowledge and set skills to equip them for the job market. Distant learning has been propelled by technology making education easily accessible.

Learning has significantly been affected by advancements in technology. Gone are the days when classrooms only used notebooks and blackboards. Due to technology, classroom sessions are always interactive with projectors and 3D images. Computers and PowerPoint presentations have brought a new dimension to teaching. Libraries are now accessible anywhere because of the use of technology. Students or researchers do not need to visit a library physically to access information. Advancement in technology in the agricultural sector has enabled the steady supply of food to the growing population. Genetically engineered crops were developed through technology and have helped in increasing the food supply. Farming equipment like tractors and combined harvesters, computerized sprinklers that are more developed have been introduced. The machines contribute to reducing human labor and replace it with more efficient computer controlled machines. This in turn ensures that farming is more profitable than the previous methods. Technology helps us manage natural forces like floods and other natural disasters that disrupt human life and economic activities. Through technology, dams are constructed to control the floods that carry away fertile soils. The dams and reservoirs are used to generate electricity used in the homes. Technology helps people make use of natural forces to better human life.
Science and technology are linked in that they heavily draw from each other. Science involves all the systematic processes that are used to gain knowledge and prove certain phenomena. Technology is used to apply solutions to concrete problems. In our daily lives, we need both science and technology to solve challenges in life like diseases, production, and communication. Scientific inventions have led to advancement in technology. Therefore, both science and technology affects our daily lives to a greater effect.
