The Betty Crocker products arose from the Washburn Crosby Company, in partner with General Mills. According to the Betty Crocker website, the idea of “Betty Crocker” arose in 1920 when General Mills published a puzzle in an article; if you sent in a completed puzzle you would receive a prize. Not only were completed puzzles sent in, but a plethora of letters asking cooking questions were sent too.
