Columbus was only doing what any other person under the ruling of a king and queen would have done back then, to serve and please them in any way possible. He wanted to show himself to his king in queen. Christopher of course is known for discovering America, but on the way there he did things that are frowned upon now. On his discovering he made the Natives into slaves, forced them to as he please or they would get punished. Columbus should not be bashed upon for his prejudices and brutality, back then it was all around the world and everybody was doing it, it wasn’t a wrong thing at this time.…

Christopher Columbus day should not remain a holiday because it is just another event on the calendar to keep track of and it could make some native American tribes aggravated if it stays. Even if Columbus day isn’t as bad as it seems, the people have the right to want to get rid of it. Although some people will get mad if this day leaves, they should know that “Columbus was a cruel slave trader who brought about the mass killing of native people.”. Columbus day was supposed to be a day when America was found, but others go deeper than that and want to get rid of it. All people, Americans and Native Americans get to have a say in this, whether it be to stay or it is to…

Columbus Day, the second Monday in October, represents the day Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. America should no longer continue to celebrate Columbus Day because he had a miserable legacy, he did not really discover America, and he was cruel. He had a bad legacy because he committed genocide, started slavery and racism. Columbus did not really find the United States, there were indigenous people there already that were settled and lived off the land. On top of all that he was very cruel, he would cut their hands off if they did not give him the quarterly quota of gold dust, he roasted the chiefs in fires, and his treatment was so bad that people tried to kill themselves .…

The portrayal of Christopher Columbus as a statue caused an uproar of left wing citizens because of the negative factors Columbus brought into America regarding slavery and his greediness to find success within his journey. However, this doesn't give the right for these citizens to destroy his statue just because it offends them, which is technically taking away the freedom of speech. On the other hand, this Christopher Columbus holiday is another reason these liberals are furious because of the idea of celebrating an event that is looked upon as a negative one. Essentially this is a part of history and the citizens have no possibility to change it, but only learn from the mistakes to shape the present day into a better…

After learning how cruel Columbus was, I don't believe he deserves to have a holiday after him. Why would anyone want a holiday after someone who killed people without a proper reason, or just because they didn't follow through with an order given to them? Columbus day is a national holiday in America celebrating the man that “discovered’ America. The problem is that he did nothing good for America. He brought slaves and disease to America, or what he thought was Asia. Columbus was an Italian, when Italy didn’t want to pay for his voyages he went to Spain's king and queen to ask them for the money, they agreed on the condition that he paid them back. When Columbus got to what he thought was Asia, but in reality was the caribbean islands, he captured slaves and sent them back to spain. This didn’t make him as much money as he hoped because most of the slaved died on the ships returning from the caribbean. When he went back he had the help of hundreds of slaves to help him find gold. When the…
