C. Believers are not to weary in restoring sinning brothers (6-10)
1. Believers are to have the attitude of sharing (v6)
Verse 6- “Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.”
a) The verb "communicate" (koinoneito: "to enter into fellowship, join one’s self as an associate, make one’s self a sharer or partner") may sometimes refer to monetary support in the New Testament (Luke 10:7; 1 Cor. 9:14, Phil. 4:15), but here it has different meaning. In Rom. 15:27, Paul says that the Jews had the gospel with its blessings and the Gentiles became their partners or sharers (ekoinonesan) in these blessings (spiritual things). Paul blended this concept with the idea of sowing and reaping which has its foundation in Genesis 1:11-12. According to Paul, if one sows to his flesh, he will reap corruption (phthora: destruction of internal corruption) and if one sows in spirit he will reap everlasting life. The heart of man is like a field in which he sows, by the mere exercise of his will, he will reap or harvest of good or evil.
2. Believers are not to weary in sowing in spirit (9)
Verse 9 - And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
c) Believers should not go weary at sowing, restoring the sinning brother. The word “weary” or “lose heart” (NASB) has the idea of growing weary or complaining because of prolonged effort in doing good. Every effort to restore the sinning brother or sowing for the spirit may require hard work and long-continued work, but it will not go fruitless (2Th 3:13). In God’s own timing, He will reward believer’s effort accordingly.
