Being Prey Short Story
What would you do if you were to be hunted by a dangerous animal? Well, Val Pumwood, the main character in “Being Prey” was attacked by a crocodile while she was exploring a river and got caught in the main channel. However, Eckels the main character in “Sound of Thunder” was initially hunting a t-rex but it ended up hunting him. If you would like to know what happens next, keep reading.
The settings of these stories are very dangerous. For example, in “Sound of Thunder” Eckels decided he wanted to go back in time and hunt a dinosaur, which isn’t that great of an idea. There were times where he could’ve gotten himself killed. Also in “Being Prey” Val Plumwood had gotten attacked by a crocodile because she went to a main channel, where she’d been told to not go there. In conclusion, both stories’ settings were very dangerous. The conflicts between both of these stories are somewhat similar to each other. In both of the stories the main characters were the prey. It said in the text “the ranger had said ‘but don’t go onto the main river channel… if you get into trouble there are crocodiles.” So, in conclusion, both of these stories have a very similar

The setting of “A Sound of Thunder” was back around the time of B.C., when the dinosaurs were around. In “Nethergrave” the setting was modern day. I think that “A Sound of Thunder” used this literary element more effectively because I really felt that I time traveled to the past and that I was standing right in front of the dinosaurs when they were describing the dinosaur. With the story “Nethergrave” I had a hard time believing I was there in another world because there was not much description of the other world. I also had a hard time telling what time the setting was taking place because I thought when he went into the computer he had went to the future.…

The three stories have some similarities, especially in the way how the authors make richer the plot introducing a character described as evil, murk and tricky, making the latter appear in the way of the innocent character to change the course of the story. In one side is Little Red Cap with the introduction of the wolf as the outsider, “[w]hen Little Red Cap entered the woods a wolf came up to her. She did not know what a wicked animal he was, and was not afraid of him.” (Grimm & Grimm, 1812: p.7), acting as a friendly character who worries about her, hiding his malicious…
