Being of Service to Others One of the most important virtues that a person can have is offering service to others without any reward or self-gratification in return. One of the greatest to have ever held this remarkable virtue was Mahatma Gandhi. He was one of the most prominent freedom fighters in the world inspiring many as he helped free his nation from the scrutiny of oppression. His non-violent actions that benefitted the common good of his people and his nation are vastly known throughout the world today. Gandhi himself once said,” The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. Gandhi believed by giving your service to others you can come to unveil who you are as a person and obtain fulfillment in life by doing so. The quote itself in many ways is true for by helping others who need it most it adds purpose to your life but at the same time it enriches others life for the better. Thus creating a glimpse of light in this world and inducing a sense of hope in others who need. If one truly wants to find who he really is as a person he must go out to the world and fill it with hope even if it is in the simplest of manners. Service of others gives us a better perception of life itself and can indeed come to shape one’s own character. Unfortunately most of us in today’s society have become blinded by selfishness, egocentricity, and foremost self-gratification for services to others. If all of us where to embrace the principles and the courage to help others most of the selfish virtues in life would vanish making it a better world for everyone to live in. Although reality is not everyone can be selfless, but those that help others come to attain happiness and purpose in life not only changing their own lives but others lives in the process. For instance, Gandhi throughout his life devoted his service for others rather than just himself such selfless acts came to validate his good fortune as a person in the world. Services of
