In “Hill Like White Elephants,” Jig is a young woman who must make an important choice in her life. More specifically, is whether she should have an abortion, that her partner wants her to have. The man feels that if Jig was to terminate the pregnancy, their life would a lot happier just like it was before. The man in “Hill Like White Elephants,” he was running from responsibility, commitment, or even marriage. It shows how he feels when he stated,” It’s really an awfully simple operation, Jig,” he also said “It’s not an operation at all (43).” On the other hand, Jig sees things differently as she sat and waited for the train.
