Becoming A World Class Engineering Student
Everyone has the ability to become an engineering student, whether decent or horrendous the type of student each individual becomes depends on the effort and attitude they demonstrate towards their academics. Their attitude should also be reflected on the work they do outside of classes such as the organization they are a part of or the job the student has. The common misconception of becoming a world class engineering student is that it only involves academics which is wrong, since having good grades is not the only reason why a company will hire a student. It involves much more than that, however it’s not difficult to become a world class engineering student if students are well rounded in all aspects of their life such as their social life,

Modern university in western culture produces students that specialize in a particular area, or two, but they are not necessarily well rounded. The ancient Greeks seemed to believe that all individuals should be well-rounded and knowledgeable in all areas. This to me is a major problem with our education systems and more importantly, it stems from a flawed way of thinking in western culture. Many are specialized in a field but are limited to just that. Ancient Greeks were taught think a certain way and by doing this the idea was good ideas will lead to good actions. Diverse knowledge leads to broader success, so it is believed and that was proven correct by the ancient Greeks.…

Many people choose to major in engineering for various reasons. Many people wanted to become an engineer because it is an occupation with great rewards and with plenty of opportunities. However, the main reason why I choose to become an engineer is because I want to make a great impact that would benefit an entire society. I knew since I was a kid that is what I want to become when I grow up. By adapting the qualities of a “world-class” engineering student, I would be able to have the right skills to make a great impact in our world. The definition of “world-class” engineering student can vary between each person. My definition for that term is, “a determined and ambitious person who have the ability to achieve a significant goal which can improve the whole world”. A “world-class” engineering student is also a role model who always have a positive mindset and has the ability to overcome any kinds of adversity. Even though it may not be easy to find a perfect example of a person who I can considered as a real “world-class” engineering student, it should still serve an…

In my opinion, one of the things that make a brilliant college student, is their attitude. A student that comes in fifteen minutes late to their class, forgets their homework, and brings in a negative attitude, is not going to succeed in college. An adequate student is prepared and is focused. In order to be focused, good students have a prime amount of sleep, for the upcoming day. An excellent student is one who wants to be there and is ready to tackle whatever gets thrown their way next. These students also have a…

During my undergraduate studies, I realized that the curriculum was exhaustive enough to give anyone an in-depth theoretical background of every subject, but as an Engineer is it enough? I needed to have something extra in my repertoire. In pursuit, I started involving myself in many projects like ‘Time Table Editor’ and ‘Online Adaptive Tests’ and also got myself the tag of Database Associate’, IBM Certified (DB2 Universal Database V8.1 Family) but my crowning achievement was to be my final year project at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, the institute for the academic elite of the country. Ever since the Industrial Revolution, Mechanical Engineering has boomed because of the demand for producing and construction of machinery. The Industrial Revolution created wider branches within the Engineering field by advertising the different aspects of engineering including computer, fossil fuel, and transportation fields. Schooling required to achieve such fields reflect massive curriculum that helps one to master their field in mechanical engineering. For instance, I would need to achieve at least twelve credits in three different math courses, eight credits in Engineering, and at least twenty-two credits in different classes in both chemistry and physics. This is just an example of requirements to achieve such goals in a degree at the College of Engineering in University of Michigan. Schools like Cal Poly of San Luis Obispo, where…
