"giving birth should be your greatest achievement not your greatest fear." Jane Weideman. Being a L&D nurse is no simple task at all. Its dealing with someones life, mother and child. Becoming a nurse you impact someones life everyday big or small. Not everyone can become a nurse of any field. It takes a very strong person to do this job. Becoming and L&D nurse requires a lot of responsibilities from you. Examples of these are, providing support for the mother during labor, monitoring the fetal rate and mothers vital signs, measuring the strength and timing of contractions, administrating medications and performing diagnostics test, consulting with physicians and other members of the care team, and tons of more responsibilities to handle in

    My name is Jennifer Mast when I was three years old my sister was born when she came out the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck three times she was dead, but they brought her back to life after that she had seizures every three minutes of the day she had spent a lot of time in the hospital and so did I. when she had turned five years old we drove to California so my sister could get half of her brain removed so the seizures would stop. As a eight year old child does I asked the doctors and nurses plenty of questions I even asked what they were going to do with her brain and if I could see it. Watching the doctors and nurses work on my sister at such a young age helping to save my sisters life made me want to pursue a job in nursing ever since I was a young girl. I want to help people and their families like they had helped us. So I begun in high school I attended vocational school to become a nurses aid. I have been a nurse aid for seven years. I have also been a med-tech for the past three years. I have worked in different fields as a nurses aid. I have worked in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home health care. They all were very enjoy able jobs. I would make a go licensed practical nurse because I care about people wants and needs and I am compassionate about the job I do and how its done. To heel some who is sick or injured or just a family member who needs someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on I am always there to help. The reward of making someone else who needs help feel better is a feeling you cant explain it makes you feel like you have done your job to make someone else have another day in the world of life. Learning new things in the medical field interest me and the more I can learn the better. When I watch television I watch different medical shows think Its amazing how they save peoples lives and I wish I could do that to. During the interview I learned that they are several ways to complete college. First, you have to take basic classes and one year of basic classes that you need to apply for nursing program. After applying to nursing program you have to take 2 years nursing classes to get associates. Than you have to go to University College and take another 4 years to get masters bachelors. The register nurses have to take care of patients they have to get information for the doctors. They have to give the doctor the fill report of the patient. Also, they have to give shots take blood pressures and other things that consider doing while you are a register nurses. It is not hard to find a job but, it goes up and down for the openings. The job is fun and yes the job is stressful because you have a person life in your hand. It takes 20 hours to do training and it takes 3 or 4 times. You have to take 3 or 4 times because every 3 to 4 years you have to retake the training because you are learning new products and new procedures. Andrea E. Fitzsimmons loves her job because she is an OB nurses. She takes care of babies when they are born or when they die. She is a nurse for 29 years and she is happy with her job. She works 7 days a week because she teaching other people too. She is also helping students in Daley College with the questions that they have. The approximate salary for a nurse is around 55,000 plus. When becomes a nurse you have to learn a lot of things and also you learn a lot from people because they are a lot of people with different kind of health problem.     After I graduate, it is required of me to become a registered nurse by going to nursing school for a number of years. As a neonatal nurse, I must become certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing due to the fact that I will be handling ill infants. Many hospitals in different locations require nurses to complete a small number of years of clinical experience in a hospital setting before practicing as a neonatal nurse. There are 3 different levels of neonatal nursing. Level 1 neonatal nurses take care of healthy infants after they are born. However, there isn't a major demand for these types of nurses because many infants are more likely to stay in the same room with their mother. A level 2 neonatal nurse, which is what I plan on becoming, takes care of premature infants or infants born with illnesses. Level 2 nurses are much more of a necessity than any of the other levels because sick infants need constant attention. A level 2 neonatal nurse may seem as though they have a lot of responsibility on their hands being that they're working with ill infants, but they don't compare to Level 3 neonatal nurse practitioners.     I love to learn because I want to provide the most competent care that I can, and because of my mere fascination with medicine. Recently, I was a preceptor for a student nurse.
