Beauty Pageants No Longer Persist In America?
Why do you think people join beauty pageants? What is the purpose? They cause stress and by the end of it, heartbreak. Everybody that competes in them just looks like a plastic barbie doll. At the end of the day, contestants start feeling like one also. Most of the time they step on people’s self esteem and make them feel worthless, even the ones for children, possibly for the rest of their life. Beauty pageants should no longer persist in America due to its outcome on most beauty pageant contestants and their self-esteem.

The fact that they actually exist is just wrong. This leads up to child abuse, eating disorders in the future, low self esteem, or a terrible future. Most of the time children are forced into beauty pageants and are blocked off from what normal children do, which is to play and have fun and a good childhood. They shouldn’t have to admit to a childhood being makeup, a stage, cheerful crowds, tiny costumes, and demanding parents. Think of how messed up those sad children’s lives are. In a convincing relevant article Billy Reed comments on what he thinks about beauty pageants by adding, “ But studies have shown that for every child who may derive some benefit from the competition, hundreds of others suffer damage to their self-esteem and develop warped values about their bodies, which often lead to anorexia or bulimia”(Reed). Most people would like to argue that beauty pageants make women feel beautiful and in a way that is relatable and agreeable. Imagine first seeing the crown, how gorgeous it looks before your eyes. The crown’s every move, which contestant’s head it will be placed on. When it first comes to a contestant’s head, that must feel graceful and achieving. All the months of preparing finally paid off - the dieting, insults, tears, struggles - finally paid off. All the times feeling envy towards the other contestants. How the winning contestant must feel. It must make someone feel really beautiful just like they are the only girl in the world. With personal experience according to her article, Lingbo Li connectedly adds, “But who am I to say that these girls don't deserve to spend their money and feel like they're beautiful too?”(Li).
