Another type of sacrifice Equality displays is physical abuse. Equality refuses to give the whereabouts of his laboratory even though he gets thrashed with whips and beaten senseless, saying “The lash whistled like a singing wind. We tried to count the blows, but we lost count” (Rand,64). The knowledge that he hasn 't given away the light bulb is the only thing that keeps him alive. He even chooses to stay in the cell for days to finally get his moment which he thinks will benefit their entire race. When Equality finally presents his invention to the scholars he offers his body for the ideal to stay alive. “ Our brothers! You are right. Let the will of the Council be done upon our body. We do not care. But the light? What will you do with the light?”(Rand,72). Equality then goes out on a limb and breaks away from…

in ‘Up the Wall’ family life in Bruce Dawes poem shows that the mother is always busy cleaning the house and preparing food for the family, the father is at work to earn money for the living, in the poem ‘up the wall’ Bruce Dawe shows how important the life of a mother is but the family don’t appreciate it because it is stereotypical and that’s what every mother should do for the family. “The kettle’s plainsong rises to a shriek; the saucepan milk is always on the boil.” This Quote shows that the mother is multitasking trying to keep up with her Daily work and she is consistently working for the house. ‘shriek’ is an example of onomatopoeia that shows there is chaos. Another quote which shows how devastating and mundane the life of the mother…
The popcorn is buttered, the soda is filled to the brim, and an elderly former drag queen settles in to watch a riot play out onscreen. Much to her dismay, none of what she remembers of that heated day in 1969 is reflected there. Director Roland Emmerich has manipulated history with his latest movie, Stonewall, released September 25th, 2015.…
The short story “The War of the Wall,” by Toni Cade Bambara takes place someplace during the mid to late 1960’s to the mid 70’s, shortly after America’s integration and in the middle of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War era was a very troubling time and effected almost everyone living in America at the time. The war was to prevent and resist communism in Vietnam. America was losing the battle, and they didn’t have enough volunteers for an effective military. This is why they started drafting men to serve in the war. When someone was drafted, they had no choice but to go to war. This was very troubling and sometimes tragic for the families and loved ones of the men who got drafted, especially when they didn’t return from war. In “The War of the Wall,” the children on Taliaferro Street are troubled by the fact that a woman had come to their neighborhood looking to paint a wall on their street that had been dedicated by the children to a man called Jimmy Lyon who had been killed in the war, and also to the legacy of the children and their families in a time of segregation. The wall was clearly very important to them, and the narrator and his brother Lou planned to stop the woman from painting over it. In the end they fail, and the woman succeeds in painting their wall, and the kids of Taliaferro Street are shocked by what the woman, who turns out to not be a stranger at all, has created. “The War of the Wall” is a beautiful piece of literature that honors the history and struggles of America and also teaches not to make assumptions about people and their intentions. Bambara’s use of irony, suspense, and a powerful theme make the message of her story extremely powerful and shocking to the reader, who will surely remember it long after they’re finished reading.…
Being part of a team is a privilege. A team is a group of people who can work together, who utilizes each person’s strengths and works on each person's weaknesses. Such unity and hard work leads to victory, without it a team will not prosper and break under pressure. The movie Miracle and the book Bleachers by John Grisham, are similar in ways, but, are more different in the most vital aspects: team chemistry, coaching technique, and success.…
Stunning scenes of landscapes, trees, and clouds fill the scenes of The Revenant. Snow fills the open-void of the wilderness and sunlight bleeds through the spaces between the tall, dark trees. The camera mainly focuses on Hugh Glass as he attempts to take his revenge upon John Fitzgerald, who murdered Hugh’s son. The camera pans smoothly during calm shots of vistas and nature, while the camera rapidly shakes during the intense attacks of the Native Americans. Rivers flow smoothly, and in some shots, Hugh’s fearful, beaten face fills the frame as he struggles to evade the threats of Native Americans. The contrasting nature of the scenes in The Revenant is effective in immersing the viewers in the environment, portraying a message of conservation, and developing a captivating, simplistic storyline.…
Dear White People Movie is about the very important point of view of the modern era. Justin Simian illustrated the main point of view that it is very difficult for the black students to study into the white campus. They face many problems such as if they are involved in the political party then they are considered the main cause of discriminatory particularly on the basis of religion or race. The main purpose of creating a movie is to finish the discriminant between the white and black and creating a sense between them. So in this way the neutralism can be created.…
Rush paints a wonderful picture of how we, as Christians, are to live authentic lives. He provides much Biblical insight in this book to help us break the walls holding us back. We might overcome these stumbling blocks by learning to trust and chase after our Creator with all we have. Only then, He will begin to unveil His plan and promises. One of the greatest quotes of this book, is Ryan’s definition of a wall. He describes them as, “an unhealthy mind-set that keeps you from living life as God has intended.” (Loc. 453) These bricks, slowly laid down over time, can consist of negative thoughts, sins, doubts, and bitterness against our God. There are no quick fixes in breaking these walls. He says that we need decision, self-control, and a plan in order to get through. In order to break the wall, Rush describes, we need to be able to recognize that the wall is there.…

A movie like Fences only comes once in a great while. It is sort of an unconventional movie, unlike most. It is filmed almost as though it is a play, which is exactly how this film got its origins. Written by August Wilson in 1985, Fences started off as a Broadway play that ended up winning the Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama in 1987. This drama focuses on exploring the African-American experience and looks deep into the heart of race relations.…
Perhaps, the single most important text that I have ever encountered is Pink Floyd’s The Wall. The album has been constantly listen too, thought about and felt throughout my childhood; and now my adult life. I cant quite remember why I found the album attractive in the first place. I started listening before I could fully understand what the album was about but I knew that is was, and would be even more, significant as I learned more about myself. As my life went on it became clear why I had these feelings. The main character, Pink, mimed me; and my emotions were what was signified in the film.…
The wall represents the separation of one person from another; how we don't want to get close to other people. The wall is torn down by nature or God because he wants human kind to communicate and not block each other out but yet the wall is rebuilt because of tradition and the neighbor going by the ideas of his father and not forming his own opinion or ideas.…
