Beach Day
Beach Day

During the summer I went to the beach with my “sister” Alexis. We went all the way to New Port Beach with my parents. When we got there we had to find a parking space, it was packed. We finally found a parking spot; it was pretty far from the beach. As soon as we got there we headed out to the beach. As I was heading over there to the ocean, the sand had a lot of seaweed. I find seaweed gross and I dislike seaweed with a passion. When I went to the ocean the water was really cold, so we just decided to go collect some seashells. We started to walk around the beach, and then we found a nice area. It wasn’t crowed and the water wasn’t as cold like the other water. Alexis and I started to splash water at each other and then salt water went in my mouth. Salt water tastes gross, I was already about to puke. But instead I suck it up and the taste of the water was gone. We were sitting on the sand were the water could hit us. Then all of a sudden I and Alexis felt something poking us on our thighs and butts. We both soon realized that they were tiny crabs, poking at us. We were trying to grab them, so we can take them home; we ended up not catching them because those little suckers disappeared in the sand, which was very disappointing. So now we were going more in the ocean, so we can swim. The waves hit us so hard that we nearly fell. The waves were pushing us ashore, but it was a total blast. I soon saw my mom; she was waiting for us to get out the water. But we just couldn’t because it was it was way too fun. We soon started to get out the water. We had got out and went to wash the sand off our body. The sand was all over my body, and I mean every where. The sand came off and we headed to the car. We went to go eat at In-Nd-Out, the food was so bomb. Our day at the beach came to an end. I was sad that the day was over because I had so much fun. I will never forget the day I went to the beach with my “sister”,

It was a beautiful July day in 2014 when my family and I were camping at Holland Lake with our family friends Kinsey and Lauren. There wasn't a cloud in sight and the sun reflected off the bluish greenish water. The air smelt of smoke and fresh trees. Early in the morning when the campground is quiet you can even hear the waterfall. Holland Lake is a very busy lake with boaters, tubers, water skiers, ect. Since that day was so nice there were a bunch of boats on the lake the waves were huge. Kinsey, Lauren, Alex and I were all pretty close in age but Alex and Lauren were taller so they get the outside of the tube. When we all finished breakfast I changed into my swimming suit speedy fast and rode my bike as fast as I could to my cousins camper, Alex. I had to wait what felt like 5 hours for her to change. Once she was done we waited for Kinsey and Lauren at ¨The Beach¨. Alex and I killed time by talking about how much fun we were going to have…

I sat at the resort’s buffet with my mom, grandparents, and my brother, while we were relaxed and we enjoyed ourselves. I could smell the salt from the seawater of Gulf of Mexico, it was a rather odd smell, it smelt bitter, fresh, and clean all at the same time. The smell was somewhat pleasurable, and was very distinct. Every morning, in the resort, I woke up to the smell of it, which was something I definitely get used to.…

When I first stepped foot on the beach, I seen a massive red and white beach ball; spelling out Pensacola Beach. A flock of seagulls soared to shore to search for food. People at the beach were blasting music out of cooler, and dancing. I positioned my rear-end in my lounge chair, while drinking a Virgin…

The first beach we went to was so cool, it was the coolest beach I have ever seen. There was a lot of surfers there, they were all super good at surfing. We stayed and watched them surf for a while but what we weren’t noticing was the waves. My brother and I were on the sand and since we were looking at the surfers this huge wave comes and gets us entirely wet, which technically we got wet without haven’t even gotten in the water. We went to another beach after that and I was called Baby Beach. We got there and I practically noticed why it was called Baby Beach, there was literally little kids everywhere and the water was not even deep. We still got in but it wasn’t so fun, well obviously the water went deeper but there was a rope that was to say that “the water drops when you pass this.” We had a barbecue later on that night, with the entire family and it was yummy. There is nothing better than home cooked family meals. We were all tired so we went back the hotel and it was time to lay our heads on the pillows. The next day we practically spent the entire day sightseeing again and later that night it was time to head off back to Arizona. It sucked that we had to leave but it had to happen that way. The trip back seemed like it took longer than coming to…

As the day was ending and the people were leaving, it was finally my turn to go down the giant water slide again. Holding up my bright sun orange swimming tube I braced myself to jump and hit the ground with a big SPLASH. Flying down the slide I could feel the frigid water pushing and shoving me down faster and faster. When I got to the bottom I was freezing and shivering but I felt exuberant. Standing there waiting for my friends all that I could feel was the arctic cold air attacking my wet body.…

Once we got deeper into the ocean the waves started pounding me. Unfortunately for me, my dad and siblings weren’t just going to stop there for me. I was pretty sure there was something down there. The broken shells did nothing to remedy that fear. After many waves, and stopping for me to glance at the bottom of the ocean we reached the place where we could catch a wave. When we saw an enormous wave my dad…

At the age of eight, being the oblivious, simple minded child I was, I nearly died. On the day of July seventh, in 2012. My mom, sister, two irrelevant brother half brothers, and my dad, decided to go to the community pool. It was our first time speaking of, we already had a pool in our backyard, however we still decided it’d be fun. There were many people there, and the pool was huge, yet oddly shaped. It was a huge square on the right side, and the deep end was a rectangular shape in the middle, then the other side was a regular shape. Knowing me of course I was very attracted to the rectangular part, but my mom said, “You aren’t old enough to swim over there.” I frowned. I had in two pigtails and a one piece bathing suit. I definitely felt too young as well. So then, I took out my pigtails, removed my floaties, and finally sat in the shallow part of the water. My brothers laughed at the disappointment all over my face as they were diving into the deep end. Only a couple of people were in the deep end, and the number footage was on the pool…

I jump into the calm, cold, dark blue water anxious to water ski for the first time since last year. My family likes do many different sports and activities together and one of the many sports is water skiing. Every year me and my family go up to lake arrowhead to water ski and this year we went during the summer. It has been a year since I water skied but I was anxious to get back up on skis. My uncle driving the boat asks me if I am ready and I nervously nodded my head yes, as the boat started to pull me up the cold lake water was splashing me in my face and it almost felt like someone was slapping in my face multiple times. As through the processes of getting up on water skis you must let the boat pull you up so it can take anywhere between 10- 20 seconds, so as the boat was pulling me up, I thought to myself this is not fun at all from getting water up your nose to having to bend your knees in the right position for the longest time I thought to myself this is not worth it but after about 13 seconds that felt like 13 minuets I was water skiing and it was the best feeling in the world, just like the feeling that you can fly or do anything.…

Finally, after what seemed like forever, I was able to get out from the water. My eyes felt like they were on fire and I could barely breathe. There was wet sand all over my body, face, and hair, but I was too shook to care. “Maggie! Where are you!”I heard my dad yell. I ran through the water to the shore. My legs felt like collapsing. Which they did. As soon as I got to my parents, my legs collapsed and I fell straight onto the towel. The towel felt as soft as a bear in this moment. My grandparents dog ran towards me and stroked its soft head against my arm.…

The sun was beating down, making the sand burn my feet. As I walk up and down the coastline, me feet bury in the burning hot sand. The waves crash into the nearby rocks. Pelicans are flying over my head. Looking into the distance, I can see a sailboat, far into the ocean. My family walks behind me holding a picnic basket and a blanket. We had planned this picnic for weeks now. As we pick our spot to set up the picnic, me and my dad begin to play catch with the frisbee. The wind blew into my face when I ran up and down the beach to catch the frisbee. My dad threw the frisbee right into the water. When I dropped my foot into ice cold water, I didn’t know if I was going to be able to get the frisbee. The water was way too cold for me to go in.…

    Biology Reflection

My whole life I have been surrounded by different experiences with biology. My family has always been really active and I have always loved being outdoors. We go on camping trips, skiing, biking, fishing, swimming, and the list goes on. I remember though, the first time I went to the beach when we first moved to Poulsbo about 4 years ago. My dad had planned the whole trip so that by the time we got down to the beach, we had to hike to it, we would be there in time to explore the tide pools. I had grown up in the mountains in North Carolina to my experiences with the ocean were minimal. I had however seen a sting ray before in Florida. So too the sea urchins, starfish and other ocean creatures, was a great joy for me. I loved it. And I will always remember the time I watched as a small fish swam right into the center of a sea urchin and when it tried to back out the sea urchin closes up and sucked the fish in with it, trapping it. It was so interesting to see that happen. Or the time I went clamming at a friends house. I looked down at the sand thinking a saw movement and squatted down to get a better look and a clam squirted me in the face. We ended up making clam chowder for dinner.…
