Introduction/Purpose Starting in 2012, baseball changed completely. This is because of the fact that in January of 2012, the BBCOR (Bat-Ball Coefficient of Restitution) regulation came into effect. This rule is specified for baseball bats and was created because of the constant injuries happening in baseball because of the extreme force or “pop” that most BESR (Ball Exit Speed Ratio) certified bats had. BBCOR Bats were created to reduce this “pop” that aluminum baseball bats currently have and replace it with a more wooden bat style of play and result. Basically, BBCOR bats were produced to perform more like wooden bats, where the force that the speed that a baseball acquires after contact with the bat is noticeably less than the exit speed of the most typical BESR aluminum bat. However, is there really such a significant difference between BESR and BBCOR bats? Is the change so drastic that the amount of hits and homeruns will actually dramatically decrease in high school and collegiate level play? The purpose of this experiment is to answer these questions with supporting evidence to my results, which will hopefully answer the query of how

In the scientific report, See the Ball, Hit the Ball, scientists, Jessica Witt and Dennis Proffitt, discussed their study of ball size perception when players are hitting well as opposed to when they are in a slump. The report included a background of the research, the methods used, the results, and a discussion of the study. Witt and Proffitt conducted the study to determine how performance efficiency and perception are correlated by determine if there is a relationship between hitting success and perceived ball size.…

A specific mathematical formula was created to determine the percent change in concussion risk. The results showed that the newer helmets reduced the incidence of a concussion by 10.8 % when compared to the VSR 4. The impact of transitional and rotational acceleration that a player receives decreased by 9.7% and 18.9 % respectively. Neck injury responses decreased with the new helmets as well (Vianoet al., 2006).…

In my experience of using a wooden bat balls I hit were not hit near as hard, not hit as far, and if you did not hit the ball square the player would know it. If you do not hit the ball on the barrel of the bat with a wooden bat it stings your hands and may break the bat training the player to hit the ball on the barrel of the bat. If I hit a ball out of the ball park by ten or twenty feet with a metal bat the ball probably would not go out with a wooden bat. One of the toughest transitions for players in college baseball to the professional level is the switch between metal to wood; therefore it would better prepare them for professional level if the so choose to play at that…

    Wood vs. Aluminum

In Major League Baseball, only wooden bats are permitted. Baseball has been a beloved American past-time for well over a century and the sport is notorious for stubbornly keeping to its traditions. Used since the 1800s, wooden bats are seen as a tradition in themselves and it's not likely that baseball will let them go any time soon. Many argue that switching to aluminum bats in the major leagues would result in a homerun slaughter-fest that would become boring after a while. There is something to be said about the skill it takes to swing and drive a ball with a wooden bat as compared to the lighter, easier to handle aluminum bats.…

How did Babe Ruth chang the history of baseball throughout the years? George Herman Ruth learned how to play baseball while attending St. Mary Industrial. George had also believed that he was born a year after his original birthday which would be February 7, 1894 instead of February 6, 1895. George Herman “Babe” Ruth is the most important figure in baseball history for making a contribution to the sport as well as saving it.…

    Wooden Bat Research Paper

Wooden bats are thought to be safer than aluminum. The reason is that when hitting a line drive, an aluminum bat can cause the ball to fly at dangerous speeds. This may be truer in youth baseball since the most reported injuries and death have been caused in adolescents. More injuries have been caused when aluminum bats were used as opposed to wooden ones. Having speed is important but shouldn’t outweigh the safety of others.…

My research revealed three main points to me. One being that metal bats have a larger “sweet spot” than wood bats. The “sweet spot” of a baseball bat is a place on the bat where the ball leaves the bat with the greatest speed and the player's hands feel very little vibration from the impact. This is because a metal bat’s barrel can hold a uniform shape longer than a wood bat. This larger “sweet spot” provides a better chance for the ball to not only be hit but hit harder.…

In asking the question what materials improvement for sports had made the biggest impact in the last century, the baseball bat is an obvious choice. First off, the word impact to me means the something had a measurable effect on something. The new composite baseball bat, instead of the wooden bats, has had a positive impact in the world of baseball. These composite bats are composed of glass, carbon and Kevlar fibers placed into a plastic mold. This new material is anisotropic, meaning they are designed to bring out stiffness and strength (Mussill). These new bats allow player to hit the ball harder and farther. This has made the game of baseball much more of a spectator sport. The excitement of home runs and line drives has expanded the numbers…

Odd thing about the whole theory that doping muddled the home run’s credibility during that era, total home runs in baseball climbed over 5,000 total during the last three seasons of the 20th century. In 2000, a record 5,693 balls left the yard. All good HGH testing aside, the number of home runs hit has hovered around 5 grand for the last 2 decades, nearly breaking the seasonal high last year with a whopping 5,610 homers.…

The term F.U.B.A.R originated in World War Two and was used as a military acronym by United States soldiers. During World War Two, F.U.B.A.R was used to describe the chaos and bedlam involved with trench warfare. It is unknown what word the term originated from, but it is suspected that it comes from the German word Furchtbar, which means terrible. F.U.B.A.R can be translated into two ways, Fucked Up Beyond All Repair, and Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition. Despite having slightly different connotations, both translations essentially mean the same thing. F.U.B.A.R is now an official military acronym used in order to deem a situation (or target) as utterly destroyed. Similarly, Fubar is a slang term which means botched, ruined, or completely messed up.…

This bat is an orange and yellowish color. This bat is black at the very end of the bat where the handle is and is orange and bright yellow on the main barrel of it. It has many weird but interesting and funny designs like an odd shaped baseball. It is shaped like a clown balloon when you blow it up. It’s like a cylinder lying on its side with a skinnier end on the bottom. It is a negative twelve which means that its weight is twelve ounces less than its length which means if it's a thirty-two inch bat it would weigh twenty ounces. Its very light weight like a blown up balloon…

The design of the cricket bat has remained largely unchanged since 1771. However, different designs, materials and variations have been tried. The most defining features of a cricket bat are its weight, type of wood and length of the handle. Recently, with the advent of 20-20 cricket and also changes in the traditional 50 over format that encourages batsmen to take more risks, a radical new design in cricket bat has caught the attention of cricket players the world over. It is called the Mongoose bat. As per cricket experts, the mongoose bat with its 33% shorter blade and 43% longer handle will enable the batsman to hit the ball harder and longer by generating higher bat speeds. The physics behind the design are such that the so called “sweet spot” is distributed throughout the surface of the blade, thus making it an ideal bat for the shorter versions of the game.…
