Banning Interracial Marriages
There have been many controversies over interracial couples for reasons of racist origin and biblical views. Though no countries have laws banning interracial marriages, it tends to still be a major issue with some predominantly in the United States. The number of interracial marriages in the United States has had a drastic increase since the earlier years, but for some reason black-white marriages tend to be the most controversial in the public eye. Americans are more willing to accept white-Hispanic or white-Asian marriages because of the similarities in skin color and social status. Ignorance , I feel, is the main reason to why people are unaccepting of interracial dating. To state that it is biblically wrong shows that you have no …show more content…
There is no biblical justification saying that people from different ?races? should not marry. If you took the time to put your prejudges aside and look deeper to its meaning you would see that the biblical basis for marriage makes it quite clear that a Christian should marry only a Christian. Therefore if you are a white Christian female and marry a black Christian male, there should be no problem. Unfortunately that is not the case because there are too many people in this world that still feel that whites should be with whites and so on. God forbid we have such things as ? racial impurities.?. But it?s not just whites that frown again black-white marriages. Black women take a high number in being against the unity of black males and white females as well. It?s called ?Marriage …show more content…
Does society play a big role into who you should fall in love with ? Of course. Coming from New York City to Bardstown, Kentucky I?ve had to deal with plenty of comments and prejudges about being in an interracial relationship. It?s all about where you come from, how you are raised. If you are brought up to see color then of course you will see a problem in interracial relationships, but at least be honest about it and say that you are racist. Don?t try to make it seem like all who partake in an interracial relationships are going to hell because they are going against God?s will. There is absolutely no where in the bible that states it is wrong to date another color. Also, how about keeping to yourself your views. We live in America, where we have the freedom to do as we chose. You don?t have to marry or be in a relationship outside of your race, but if I chose to do so and I?m happy, stay out of my business. Historically, African Americans and European Americans have had a highly destructive relationship of enslavement and oppression, which has resulted in a history of mistrust, according to P. H. Collins (African American Feminist Thought : Knowledge, Consciousness and the Politics of Empowerment, New York,Routledge, 1990). As a result, this relationship symbolizes the institutionalized oppression embedded in race relations despite the very intimate nature of this romantic relationship. Using the centrality of race within the context of romantic relationships, this study was designed to determine how race in uences the communicative process. Q-sort methodology was used, which required participants to determine what waiting, hinting, direct, and third-party intervention strategies they would use to initiate a date in both same-race and interracial contexts. Findings reveal that when comparing verbal strategies across both contexts and open-ended responses to likelihood or reality of dating interracially, participants were resistant to the idea of dating a person from another race. External factors such as family and society were cited as primary deterrents to involvement in an interracial romantic relationship. In general, participants in this study used more social distancing strategies for initiating interracial dating relationships than same-race dating relationships.
