Finland Finland is a beautiful country where most areas are covered with snow during most of the year. Finland is a very large country with many open spaces because they have a population of only 4.3 million people. There are also over 50,000 lakes in the country and nearly 70% of the land is covered in forests. Finland can be divided into four unique regions. If you are lucky enough to be able to go to Finland, you will want to make sure to visit the North, East, South and West regions. The Northern region of Finland is the center of Finland’s lumber industry because of the many forests in this region. The North region is very close to the Arctic Circle and there are lots of winter sports activities here like skiing and snowmobiling. You can also take a cruise on an icebreaker ship through the ice covered water of the Gulf of Bothnia. The town of Kemi has a very unique attraction called the Snow Castle. The Snow Castle is a winter hotel that is built entirely of ice. The Eastern Region of Finland is known for its many lakes. The town of Savonlinna is best known for a castle that was built in the 15th century. The castle was built to protect the town and to help control the border between Sweden and Russia. The East Region is filled with many lakes, rivers and beautiful scenery.
The Southern Region of Finland is most known for the city of Helsinki, which is the nation’s capital. Helsiniki has a population of 560,000 people, which makes it Finland’s largest city. Helsinki is located along the southern coastline of Finland on the Gulf of Finland. The city of Helsinki was also the host city for the Summer Olympic Games in 1952. There are many things to do and see in Helsinki such as an outdoor museum, a sea fortress and many historical sites. The Western Region of Finland is located along its western coastline on the Gulf of Bonthia. The seaside city of Turku is the oldest city in Finland. Turku was once the capital of Finland
