Ball Bounce Investigation
How high does a ball bounce?

Aim: To see how high the bounce of a ball is.

The changed variables are the height of where the ball is dropped from. The independent variables of this investigation. The (dependent) variable that will be measured in this investigation is the bounce height of the dropped ball. This shall be observed with one person dropping the ball from above while another person watches the for the highest point the ball reaches.

Three variables that could be affected within this investigation is the wind, where/how it bounces and the force behind the ball. To control these three issued variables simple but effective precautions will be taken effect. To make sure no wind will blow the ping pong ball into another

The bounce height of the ball will always be read from the top of the marking of the ball never the top or side etc. In the room that we are doing the experiment the temperature will try to be kept the same. Because of the changes of energy some may be changed I to heat, so if there are different temperature of when the ball is bounced that could affect what the energy becomes. …show more content…
The two 100 cm rulers are to be strapped to the wall with sticky tape to make it 200cm. Then the ping pong ball will be dropped from 50cm and recorded at the highest height it reaches, this is done three times. Then the ball is dropped 50 cm further up (100 cm) and again repeated three times. This continues until finishing the 200 cm mark after that the three tries are averaged.

Analysis

From my results and graphs I noticed that as I increase the drop height of the ball, the bounce height would also increase. This is what I predicted in my hypothesis, because more potential energy is gained from a greater height.

Now referring back to my hypothesis, I can see that my prediction was correct. That the higher the drop height of a ping-pong ball the higher the bounce height. I have also proved that more potential energy is gained from a greater height and that the ball will never bounce to the original drop height because energy is wasted to sound heat, extra.

Evaluation

While gaining my results from this investigation we made sure we observed carefully for any mistakes when dropping the ball. After every three we checked that the ruler had not
