After five centuries, the activity developed to a game called "Battledore and Shuttlecock". The game has now spread to Japan, India, and Greece as well. By the 16th century, the game of Battledore became known as "Jeu de Volant" and was widely played by the majority of children in England. During the 1860s, the game was altered in India were a net is added and was now called "Poona". In the 1870s, British Officers learned the game from India and brought it back to England. There, the Duke introduced the game to nobles and elites and offical rules for badminton were developed at the "Bath Badminton Club" formed in 1877. In 1934, France, England, Scotland, and Holland formed the "International Badminton Federation" or IBF. The first tournament from IBF was called the "Thomas Cup" in 1948. In 1972, Badminton turned into a demenstration sport in the Munich Olympic Games. Badminton offically became an Olympic sport in Barcelona in 1992. It was finally recognized world wide its single and double matches. In 1996, a mixed double event in the badminton game in Atlanta was created.
