Bad Roommates
Ever had a roommate that seems fine, but after a few days of living with them they seem to do a complete 180? There are up at all hours of the night being loud, never clean, and worse of all steal all of one’s food and drinks because they never have any money to buy their own. Everyone is trained differently and each person has their own way of running a household; having to learn everyone's character and the way they live can be challenging for both. Living with a horrible roommate will absolutely be an unpleasant experience; plus, it will definitely lead to plenty of conflicts. But, mostly with having a roommate people will likely run into the noisy disrespectful ones, the dirty hazardous ones, and the bad financial ones. There will be many times when it’s quite difficult to live with another person because they feel noise isn’t an issue, they tend to not want to pick up after themselves, and their finances are the worst.
Ever had a roommate that gives the impression that noise never bothered them? For example, having rowdy parties, listening to loud music while playing video games extremely loud, having sexual relations at full volume, and not being respectful of the other person that resides there, just to name a few. First, who doesn’t enjoy a good party? But there’s a time and place for it; having a party at 3 am on a Tuesday morning when there is another person living there is absolutely a bad idea and without question will result in an argument. Second, playing video games and listing to loud music at wee hours of the morning is not respectful of the other person living there and if they are awakened by the noise they will most likely have an attitude and that will probably end up being an argument. Third, having sexual relations is one of the worst noises anybody can hear; having intercourse tremendously too loud and waking up the roommate is a gigantic problem and will consequently end in a combat situation.
Having a dirty roommate will always lead

At first glance, many students are immediately drawn to the social environment of a university. Various universities including NCCU, UNCG, NC A&T and WSSU all provide socially adequate environents where students are given access to differentiating programs, parties, clubs, dances and events. Another common connotation referenced when accessing a university is the utilization of dorm rooms. This can serve as either a pro or a con, depending on a student's personal preference. There are students who may not mind sharing their space with another student, but there are also students who prefer a bit more privacy and seclusion. Having a…

Imagine freshmen year in college. It’s filled with fun an excitement. You no longer live at home; you are living in a dorm with all people your age. Now imagine living in a room with three people. These people have completely different schedules than you. Some of you stay up late and some try to go to bed early. Some like loud noises while they sleep; others need complete silence. Well I can imagine this situation very well because I have been living with three roommates since the beginning of the semester.…

My older brother, a junior here at Binghamton University, has had his fair share of bizarre roommates. When he was a freshman, he got stuck rooming with a junior that was clinically depressed. He would stay up late cursing, throwing things, and rambling on about how his life sucked. He even told stories about how he tried to take his own life. My brother's second roommate was even worse. He had really bad hygiene and apparently smelled like a mix of ketchup and onions.…

: As a first year college student I think that adjusting to college would be one of the hardest things for me to do. Making the transition into a new environment and new relationships with new people is not the easiest thing to do when you have adapted to certain people almost all your life. I will be expected to adapt to an unfamiliar environment, adjust to different living arrangements, and develop new relationships. Living with roommates may be the first ‘test’ of my freshmen experience. I will have to face the challenge of adjusting to roommates who may have very different boundaries and individual needs than family and friends from home. My roommates and I may or may not develop close friendships, but communication and compromise can build a smoother transition. College brings a unique opportunity to interact and live with people from various backgrounds and cultures. Expanding my worldview by learning about each other’s differences and similarities will likely enhance my college…

This is not fair because some people who just do not like their roommates are able to switch rooms and others that actually get into fights with their roommates are not always able to switch rooms. To fix this problem, I would use the conflict resolution system of mediation. I would use mediation because the roommates would be able to talk their problems out and see if they can come to an agreement without them having to switch rooms. This process I would call Roommate Mediation and this process would work by when one of the roommates is having a problem with the other one they would go to their RA on their floor. The RA would then ask both people if they are willing to attend a mediation session. If they both agree to mediation, then the RA would ask them when it would be an appropriate time for them to meet. The mediation would take place in the study rooms which there is one on each floor of the residence hall. I think this would be a good place for the mediation process to take place because the rooms are quiet, the roommates would feel safe, and there is plenty of…

Another factor could also be agreeing with one another with the way things are; in this situation, one person might think the room is clean while to the other roommate they might think it is a bit messy. Moving away from home to a new location has changed some of my aspects in many ways; for instance, while being in Stillwater I actually feel safer around my community than as in Oklahoma City it can sometimes be more dangerous in ways like more robbing’s and break-ins.…

Even if you don’t like your roommate it is their basic human right to be respected. There are little things that can be done to show your respect for one another regardless of your feelings towards the other person. You need to respect each other feelings by asking them how they feel, validating their feelings, empathizing with them, seeking understanding of their feelings, and take their feelings into consideration. It is unacceptable to just go and throw all your things all over your roommate’s or not respect their views of certain issues. You can disagree, and perhaps not want to associate with them, but you can’t take away the human right of respect. If you’re conflicting both of you should rationalize and figure out something that is beneficial for both of you. That is a key in respect, taking in consideration the feelings of the other person in…

Having a roommate can be an unpleasant experience. Everybody is conditioned differently and has their own way of running a household. Having to learn everyone's disposition can be a challenge within itself because one can be different than one is used to. For me I have found it quite difficult to live with other people because they tend to not want to pick up after themselves, they have no regard for your feelings, and they could care less about your personal belongings. I have categorized the roommates that I have lived with into three categories: the dirty, the disrespectful, and the hazardous.…
