BEAU AND ARROW
BEAU AND ARROW is a Western that is driven by the theme about redemption. The heart of the story has merit. The idea of an outlaw, who considers one’s self to be an atheist, teaming up with a nun has plenty of solid potential.
The goal is clear and the stakes are high. The story combines drama with humor. While there are strong features to the plot and the characters, overall it would benefit from more development.
The opening sets up the protagonist’s backstory and Beau’s ordinary world. There’s a solid inciting event when he agrees to help escort the nuns. This is the catalyst that changes Beau’s life. The journey out west propels the story forward into act two.

One really likes Beau and the audience roots for him. He’s reckless, but he wants to have a normal life. He struggles with being an outlaw and wanting money and settling down. He also struggles with his faith. Elevate his cynical side and make him a bit more charming in his actions and in his dialogue. He shares some chemistry with Sophia, but it could be stronger and more romantic. At the end, he transforms when he commits to a normal life.
Sophia is also likable and feisty. However, it would be nice to know more about her. She also always seems to be “acting” and the audience never gets to see her real self and her vulnerability. She cares about her grapevines, as if they were babies, which is nicely crafted.
Hermann acts like the wise mentor, as he gives out wisdom: “Life without meaning, has no purpose.” This is actually how Beau ends up transforming, when he finds a purpose in life.
However, as stated, the turn of events about Hermann being an alien doesn’t work well. However, the subplot of him falling in love with Pauline is very workable.
