Autobiography: Sibling and Youngest Sister
THE TURBID EBB AND FLOW OF MISERY
Autobiography (sample)

Sometimes, to reminish painful events is the thing we would prefer not to do. We opted to forget those hateful memories for it only reminds us of our weaknesses and failures. Yet we come to realize that our struggles before give essence to the life we have lived today.
We’re eight siblings in the family of the couple whose hearts are so frail and weak. My parent’s relationship did not end up well before I graduated in High School. My mother walked away home and lived independently with our youngest sister. That made our family in turmoil and left my brothers and sisters outcast. We were misguided. Father became drunkard, brothers walked away home and my younger sisters married early. However, I did not lost hope for I believe that someday, I will bring back our family’s dignity. I became stronger and inspired by the curses of others. Truly, my life is in penury. The agony I suffered before is beyond compare. Anyway, it is in suffering that we become firm. I was able to surpass the ebb and flow of my life’s misery. I became determined and competent in any field. I passed the board exam and got my permanent position immediately. I am blessed with hardworking husband and inspiring kids. Most of all, with what I have attained, I was able to help others and bring back our family’s pride and honour. Thus, in this world, everything has its purpose. Let us embrace opportunities even if its fortune or not. If it’s hurtful, then be it. Just be optimistic. Always remember, “There is always light at the end of the tunnel.”

However, there are some, who so desperately cling to the idea of the past and believe that they have the power to repeat it. While an action can be repeated in order to emulate an action of the past, the entirety of the moment can never be recreated. This is due to the fact that unlike a physical action, the emotions and intent behind the action are impossible to duplicate.…

Our experiences and the way we react to them shape who we become. Dwelling on a particular event will not help us succeed in life; whether the event be positive or negative. “Turn your mind from the ship, child. It is nothing but a rotting carcass in the grass. The carcass has shocked you with its stink and its flies. But you have walked past it, already, and now you must keep walking” (122). There are events in our lives that will shock us and leave us unsure of what to do, or whether we should keep moving on. These thoughts should not hold us back, as the answer is always to keep moving on; the hardest parts do not last.…

Growing up with my mom things were pretty blunt, DON’T do things you know you have no business doing. My sister Nyla and I were like two peas in a pod, we did everything together and often defended one another so it was fair for my mom to assume that if something bad happened we both were in on it and she would spank us. At the time I thought it was horrible, I look back now at the stories and I laugh.…

“When we meet real tragedy in life, we can react in two ways-either by losing hope and falling into self destructive habits or by using the challenge to find our inner strengths”- Dali Lama. I have witnessed and encountered many tragedies in my life and are going share the trials and tribulations that I have endured and how life has made me a stronger individual today. The point of this story is not to upset those who have witness tragedies as well or frustrate those who are going through something but to show that anyone can come out stronger through tragedies they’ve witnessed, instead of faltering into a distressful state of mind.…

Throughout history it has been understood that we attempt to comprehend and remember the past in order to not repeat certain events in the future, but we also do this for another purpose, to understand our identities individually and collectively during periods of grief. The September 11th day of remembrance is our nation’s annual honor to the heartbreaking attacks of 9/11. On this day we as a nation can honor the lives that were lost and in turn evaluate our identities separately and jointly. “ ‘This collective trauma marks memories and changes future identities, whether or not the traumatizing event(s) was experienced directly.’ When meaning can be made from traumatic experience, however, it too becomes incorporated into collective identity. Then, the process of reparation, reconstruction, and symbolic healing can proceed” (Pivnick 505). This demonstrates that once we construct meaning from tragic events in our past, only then can we begin to reconcile and move forward. We go through this process by sharing our personal stories which in turn become our cultures mythologies.…

Every day we are given a fresh start; another chance to move forward in our lives and accomplish the things we thrive to achieve day to day. A new day can also liberate us from our past mistakes and provide us with a chance to change our ways. We are all faced with misery and misfortune at points in our lives, some more than others. We must recognize that it is not the burden in itself that shapes who we are, but how well or how poorly we deal with the difficulties. Sometimes misfortunes can be seen in a negative light; because it seems unjust, therefore we response in a negative matter, and become negligent to change. Overcoming tragic events is what truly counts, for we are meant to live happily and in acceptance that there are things that we cannot change. In many cases, individuals seem to feel as though they’ve lost an amount so great that they are unable to free themselves of the pain. This perspective often leads to further suffering. A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahou and Kiss Me by Andrew Pyper demonstrate a loss of identity, negligence towards communication, and eventually leading to the destruction of a relationship.…

As many of us develop, we may be able to identify those moments when some experience altered our development, or enabled us to view our environment in a different light. These experiences may have been critical in our lives, and have possibly shaped the type of adults we are now, and how we may be in the future. Personally, the experience that molded me into the adult that I am today was a negative experience. It was an experience that was spawned out of jealousy, hatred, rage, and sadness. As I reflect upon this life changing moment, I can’t help but feel as though I am transported back in time as that fearful, timid child dealing with the sorrows of others, and coping with the pain they bestowed upon me.…
