Abstract
Two countries, the United States of America and Australia, who were both born on the backs of exiled refugees from English monarchy, became strong allies shortly after December 1941, due to Imperialist Japan attacking Australia during World War II. This paper identifies the shared values of America and Australia, their economic relations, security, and political interests. The treaty allows for the export of certain defense articles and services between the United States and Australia without the need for export licenses or other International Traffic in Arms Regulations approvals. By streamlining the export process and eliminating the requirement to prepare and obtain export licenses or other approvals, this treaty enhances defense trade between the United States and Australia (State, 2012). The treaty supports Australian defense industries’ ability to cooperate with American partners or directly bid on U.S. Government proposals, which creates healthy competition in the defense sector (State, 2012). The treaty creates an “Approved Community” of government and private sector entities that may export and transfer certain U.S. Munitions List items for pre-approved facilities in Australia and the United States (State …show more content…
A key way in which Australia and the United States can contribute to the region is by seeking to make the most of their alliance and its contribution to stability in the region at the same time as seeking to forge greater cooperation in the region. There is a clear link between Australia 's long standing alliance relationship with the United States under ANZUS and their commitment to engagement with Asia. They are mutually reinforcing. Australia and the US will also continue to work for regional stability through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum (ARF). The ARF has a useful role to play in developing greater understanding and confidence among the countries of the Asia Pacific, and contribute to the avoidance and resolution of tensions (Britannica,
