Aurora Book 14 Analysis
In Book 12, Aurora encounters Odysseus’ ship in which she enchants the crew with her beauty and tender voice anew. This encounter is nothing new to Aurora; for she repeatedly practiced her vigorous charm during the passing of previous ships. Nevertheless, Aurora notes the cleverness of the sailors. This however, creates suspense throughout the scene and forces Aurora and the other Sirens to endeavor enticing the men. To start off, Aurora reveals her internal feelings towards the routine of charming men. Later on Aurora describes her eccentric encounter with Odysseus’ crew. Book 12 takes place at sea right off the island of Sirenanka that is known to inhabit the Sirens. “The sense of pleasure and thrill that excites my internal senses during my endless encounters with naïve mortals grants me life. It was then when I realized the suffering the man had to go through. What good will these ever bring me? Just then, Iris and Scarlett shot me a glance and we slowly let loose of the oars and swam back to the rocks. From the shore, I watched the ship sail out into the distance until it was inconspicuous. I reminisce the scene repeatedly ever since the morning. Never had I seen a crew so ingenious! I look back over to the shoreline where putrid skulls and bones lay on the sand from previous wreckages. I examine the amount; for there is more than three dozen! The scene causes me to view the remaining of the men as repulsive. Before, I thought of it as a sign of accomplishment. Why is it that someone who looks so angelic and innocent but destroys someone just by the soothing sound of their voice? I ponder the idea of finding out a way to persuade the men to help me, but I cannot talk to them without luring them into my charm. It’s as if I am stuck in a trance or maybe a labyrinth.
