Aurelia Delatorre: A Short Story
There was a severe amount of disapproval from his siblings and Tabitha, while his mother remained rather neutral about the matter, but it wasn’t enough to sway him from this newfound purpose. His family was at risk and—on a more selfish note—Rith detested the thought of dying a meaningless death as he scrambled to escape. Better to pledge his life to a cause and either fight his way to victory or be taken out in a blaze of glory then to cower in fear over endless possibilities. Complete and utter devotion to the program left him doing exceedingly well throughout his time in the academy …show more content…

In just three years they’d managed to rack up a ten Kaiju kill count before invasion-2 came to a close and it left them deemed heroes. Rithisak was simply happy to return alive from the entire ordeal but he rose up to graciously accept the praise heaped upon them for coming out on top. After it was assumed the horrors of the breach were finished he ended up working in a scrap yard to earn money to send back home to his family. He nearly disappeared off the radar though he kept in contact with Aurelia all the way up to when she’d gotten married, pregnant, and a new had opened. “An Athabasca Story,” by Warren Cariou, uses allegory to describe how Indigenous communities have been drawn into the natural resources industry. Cariou begins by describing Elder Brother’s hunger and loneliness. As the story states, “[h]is stomach was like the shrunken dried crop of a partridge,” (Cariou 1). He is starved, cold, alone, and unable to find his way. This seems to represent how, through colonialism, Indigenous communities have been under resourced and isolated from one another.…

The Fall of the Roman Republic Lynn Hunt’s analysis of the Roman Republic is far more compelling than Polybius’s. Although Polybius writes concisely about the individual institutions within the Roman Republic and how they overlap, he superimposes his mixed constitution bias as his analysis seems more focused on the theoretical outline available in the constitution. On the other hand, Hunt is not so strictly tied to the constitutional ideas of the institutions and explores how in practice they have evolved and deviated from the attributes and responsibilities originally constructed in the Roman constitution.…

“Fleur” by Louise Erdrich was written to encompass a cursed Chippewa woman, Fleur Pillager, as she struggles against the oppressing binds of men, race, and society. Since a young age, she was considered dangerous because of the thought that the lake monster of Lake Turcot, Misshepeshu, wanted the girl for himself. Ever since, she’s been out casted not only for her “curse”, but for her ethnicity and her gender. This story is very much like “A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty in the sense of racial and gender conflicts between the characters and society. Both oppressed characters struggle against the psychological frames put onto them.…
