Fatigue plays a major part in the sporting performance of the athlete both in physical and mental terms. The athlete needs to learn to notice the signs of fatigue and tension that arises from this and introduce methods to cope with the debilitating effect it can have on their performance. Muscle fatigue and the tension associated with it can result from a number of different factors. The athletes may simply have over exerted themself physically in training or competition leading to muscular fatigue from pushing their physical limits. They also may have drained their body and mind from mental stress with regards to performance or outcome.…
The definition of burnout in a work sense it refers to a state of overwhelming feeling, emotional listlessness, and depression because prolong levels of high stress (Scott, 2010) this is usually work-related or in life demands. Being able to harness the power stemming from altered emotional states such as anger and other changes of our internal psychological equilibrium can potentially generate and provide enormous amounts of raw power. In the properly trained athlete this raw energy can be refined into a competitive edge demonstrated as an increase in performance and capability. However, when arousal states are ignored emotions can unfortunately work against the athlete to a potentially catastrophic failure of emotional regulation. Conversely, when the player isn’t engaged fully their boredom and lack of interest in the sport can undermine their otherwise impressive talents due to lack of attention and focusing on non-essential elements.…

The problem of over-stressed athletes has become such a complication that high school players are getting pulled out of their sport due to stress related injuries and inability to maintain their required GPA. With coaches and parents, colleges, competing players, staying on a strong academic path, and the constant fear of injury, it is understandable why so many student athletes have breakdowns, failing grades, and are unable to connect with anything but their sport and schoolwork. But something all student athletes should know is that they are not alone; there are millions of high school athletes all over the world with the same problems and struggles as the ones…

I think some athletes seem so unmotivated because of lack of challenge. They can slack off relying on natural talent when they need to use it. But other times put forth little effort because they already know what is being taught, or are physically stronger, smarter tacitly or more conditioned than opponents. Others having stronger motivation lacking talent may have stronger drive to accomplish or advance their skills and ability. I would much rather have an athlete who is motivated rather than a skilled unmotivated athlete. When your apart a team and someone is not putting in as much effort as the others it can damage the team culture and cause distress among the athletes. Ive played for teams where there were athletes unmotivated but very…
Robinson (2010), “Managers can identify and prevent burnout by knowing the meaning and signs of burnout, understanding the causes of burnout, developing interventions to prevent burnout, and analyzing how they deal with their own personal and work –related stress” (para. 6). When you are a manager it is important that you get to know your employees and who he or she is. What is important to them and what he or she wants to accomplish. There needs to be a relationship with the employee’s not necessary personal but one where a manager is able to intervene and be comfortable doing so when…

Job burnout has been looked at in many different ways, but the most used dentition is “a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, cynicism (depersonalization) of others, and a feeling of reduced efficacy (personal accomplishment)” (McShane and Von Glinow, 2005). It is a condition that is on the rise among workers in the twenty-first century. Burnout is a type of stress response most commonly displayed by individuals who have intense contact and involvement with others during the course of their normal workday. Burnout was first seen as occurring within the “helping” professions such as nursing and education, but it is now seen as a widespread issue. At first, burnout was studied from an emotional arousal perspective. This essay will look at the three major components of burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced personal accomplishment, and how stress is related. After examination of the concept of job burnout, its presence in the field of athletic training will be expounded upon.…
According to the Merriam-Webster burnout is defined as exhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration (Merriam-Webster, 2012). Burnout in the workplace occurs more frequently than one would think. A combination of outside factors with organizational issues may cause burnout to arise. Outside factors that contribute to burnout are social, individual and cultural issues. These factors should not be confused with symptoms of depression. Depression and burnout or similar however the causes are different which determines the diagnosis. Example an individual may be suffering from depression because of the lose loved one, therefore the depression is following her to each environment; work, home, social life etc. These symptoms would determine that the person is in fact suffering from depression. Some theories also believe that gender factors contribute to “a curvilinear relationship in differences between men and women in the use of workplace flexibility (E. Jeffrey Hill, 2008).…
Granted, success can be traced to genetic advantages. However, without immense training, it seems impossible for the top sportspeople to stand out. To improve performance, dedicate athletes have been in constant training no matter in the chilly winter or in the scorching summer, mostly from childhood onward, and only enjoyed a fraction of leisure time compared with ordinary individuals. Further, they frequently put their bodies into risk, carrying on painstakingly training processes. Even more frequently, they are supposed to cope with psychological…
