Athletes Should Not Be Paid

The author believes that athletes are getting paid way too much money for their role in society; to play games for people’s entertainment. Salaries and wages are traditionally based on the value of one’s work but this rule does not necessarily follow in reference to high league athletes. In a day where one should be paid according to that person’s job’s economic importance, athletes simply are not.
An example used in the article is the difference in salary of top basketballers compared to teachers. “Teaching is one of the most economically important occupations because our future economy relies on the education of its youth.” Though this be true, teachers are being paid a much lower amount than these professional athletes. Each basket Kobe Bryant scores earns him equivalent to the average yearly wage of a classroom teacher. I agree that our athletes are being paid too much money for what they do compared to other jobs in our society. I agree that teachers should definitely be paid a higher salary since if we did not have teachers, our future would become a look-alike of our past since students are our future. This topic ties to other major entertainers in society such as movie actors and television program hosts who are also paid too much for their value in our world. There is no balance if athletes are paid over fifty million a year and those who sacrifice their lives every day to perform their jobs aren’t even paid a fraction of it. I think that even if their attitudes are to change, and they become positive role models that are truly valued by society, they do not deserve the salary they have and the system needs to
