Answers to Case Application 1 Questions Growing Leaders

1. What do you think about Buckley’s statement that leaders and managers differ? Do you agree? Why or why not?

Buckley statement said that he believes leaders differ from managers. “A leader is as much about inspiration as anything else. A manager is more about process.”

I agree fully agree with Buckley’s Statement. He stated that a leader is the inspiration behind the scenes. The leader needs to show proper ethics and work attitude for the employees to follow. When a leader is not fulfilling his or her role and only commanding instructions, it shows poor leadership skills and will only affect the rest of the team poorly. Managers, Buckley stated, “. is more about process (Robbins & Coulter, 2011, p. 482).” Managers are there to make sure the employees are trained to do their work and make sure the business is running smoothly. The managers, I believe, are the ones who run the show in a business. While leaders implement rules and guide, managers are there to make sure everything is organized and going as planned, while also making sure the leaders idea are making profit for the business.

According with one of the articles, managers need more than just leadership, to be effective; managers need to be good leathers and set the example with positive behavior in the work environment. In addition, he believes that successful managers have the power of guiding their employees with personal examples, if they are getting effective results, managers just need to show their employees how to get it done accurate the way they want it done (Rich. 1997).…

It’s debatable if you have to be a leader to be a manager or vice versa. Although I think SGM Wallace was too emotional and defensive whenever his “authority” was challenged. A leader believes everyone in the team is capable of attaining their goals and his or her job to provide appropriate training and resources to help the team achieve their goal. He/she should communicate consistently with their team to identify any misunderstandings. A leader pushes everyone in the same direction while keeping them…

    Leaders vs Managers

In my experience leader and managers are completely different. To be perfectly honest I never just put much thought into it until this lecture. But nevertheless I can more than relate. A manager only concern is to complete the task at hand regardless of how it affects others as long as the task is completed. A manager takes undeserved credit just because of his title or position. A manager only makes rules and pass them down and never really experience or encounter the rules they make or are given to pass down. Managers just execute them. Leaders take the time to explain not just relay rules.…

For some reasons, the managers’ positions have been seen in a negative way for many years. However, this does not change the essentiality of this position in any organization, especially in business set-ups. There have been a constant confusion between the role of leaders and managers, and what should be clearly established is that these two roles do not share the same meaning. Being a manager does not guarantee that one is already a good leader. However, leaders can be effective managers. This only means that in order for managers to be effective and avoid negative feedback, they should have sufficient knowledge and skills on leadership. Aside from this, managing and leading a company will also have different impacts on the organization, as well as business outputs (Treacy, 2006). Not all of the renowned managers are great leaders, but these two cannot be separated. As a matter of fact, so many supervisors, administrators, and other high-ranking officials in different organizations have been performing their role without being good leaders themselves. It is just that their positions open better opportunities to be leaders. A manager can truly rise from other managers if he or she manages to be an efficient manager and leader at the same time (Bateman & Snell, 2009).…

Interest in leadership increased during the early part of the twentieth century. While many different leadership theories have emerged, most can be classified as one of eight major types:…

It has been said that managers “do things right” while leaders, on the other hand, “do the right things”. Managers are concerned primarily with managing things. Leaders, on the other hand, are show concern for leading people. Dr. Healy’s short stint in the Red Cross showed that she was more than a leader than a manager of the gargantuan relief service organization, whose organizational grandeur, financial resources and manpower are greater than the Philippine military establishment.…

For years there have been an argument about whether leaders and managers are two completely different entities. Can an individual be manager or leader or can they be both. I believe an individual can be both. In Leadership: Practice and Theories Mr. Northouse Peter says that both manager and leaders are essential for an organization to prosper but to be effective, there needs to be an equal balance of competent managers and skilled leadership (Northouse, pg. 13). An…
