Charles Martin in Uganda: What to do When a Manager Goes Native

Introduction Hydro Generation, HG, is an electric company that specializes in different means and abilities of generating energy and electricity for the community. Recently, the company chose to start a large project in Uganda, Africa. The project consisted of building a dam near one of Uganda’s larger cities to help generate more energy and electricity naturally. The vice president of HG, James Green, decided to make Charles Martin the lead liaison over the Uganda project due to his background in with African culture and experience at his young age of 29. However, after the preliminary and construction phases of the Uganda dam project, the main concern is to have Charles Martin to be the overall manager of the operations of the Uganda dam project. Through careful evaluation of Charles Martin and responses from his action during the preliminary and construction phases, Green now needs to make the choice of keeping Martin or replace Martin for the operations of the Uganda dam.

Ugandan Culture Affecting Foreign Company Operations

Uganda is a country with a population of 25 million people, with Uganda actually being a very diverse country overall. With Uganda being rather diverse, this can cause some different complications and affect how businesses operate in Uganda. The main attributes that would affect any business entering Uganda are the different language barriers, the different religious views and other religious concerns, and the political unrest and nepotism ravishing Uganda. The language barrier may be an attribute of Ugandan culture
