1) Discuss the concept of CSR. What role does it play in the relationship between a company and its host country?

CSR which is known as corporate social responsibility is a belief that the welfare of the various stakeholders affected by those activities should be taken into consideration. The role that CSR plays in the relationship between a company and its host country involves international social responsibility. International social responsibility is the expectation that MNC’s concern themselves with the social and economic effects of their decision regarding activities in other countries (Deresky, P. 41). The stance on international social responsibility consist of; assuming some responsibility for economic development in a subsidiary’s host country to taking an active role in indentifying and solving world problems (Deresky, P.41). Their stance is to determine how harmonious and productive its relationship will be with host countries.

2) Discuss the criticisms that have been leveled against MNCs in the past regarding their activities in less developed countries. What counterarguments are there to those criticisms?

Criticisms that have been leveled against MNCs in the past regarding their activities in less developed countries consist of the benefits versus harm wrought by their operations around the world (Deresky, P. 40). This can consist of disrupting the social, technological, and political climates in host nations. Counterarguments to those criticisms are that MNCs can argue that they positively impact the developing economies by many ways. The ways they impact it consist of; providing managerial training, investment capital, new technology, as well as creating jobs and improving infrastructures that without the presence of MNCs host nations would not have all of this (Deresky, P. 41).
