The Northern Democrats eventually chose Stephan Douglas who they actually felt would defeat the black Republicans. The Southern Democrats did not think so, instead nominated John c. Breckenridge, who was the current Vice President. The Democrats creating a conflict was actually in favor for the Republicans. The Democratic Split of 1860 occurred in Baltimore, Maryland, during and after the Democratic Party’s convention. The split was important, because it had led to the democrat’s failure in the election later that year. The events that led to The Democratic Split were the Democratic Conventions in Charleston, South Carolina and Baltimore, Maryland. During the convention in Charleston, the Northern and Southern Delegates of the Democratic party argued between Breckinridge and Douglas for their candidate for president. The North sided with Douglas, because he believed that the federal should not have any power to forbid or allow slavery, which allowed for the states to decide, while the South sided with Breckinridge, because he believed that slavery…

During the 1860s election, the topic of slavery brought many political tensions to the Republicans and Democrats. The Republicans was an anti-slavery party. The Republicans disagree of the spreading of slavery and would take this issue to Congress, whenever they can,to stop its expansion. They viewed slavery as an a problem that would last forever, and thought the problem would soon lead to extinction (http://www.tulane.edu/~latner/Background/BackgroundElection.html). As for the Democrats, they were pro-slavery party. They viewed slavery was good not only for the slave holder, but also for the slave(John C. Calhoun). In the 1850s Abraham Lincoln said that slavery was “an unqualified evil to the negro, the white man, and the State,” but later on in his first Inaugural Address he said that he had “no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with slavery in the States where it exists.”Abraham Lincoln personally didn't like slavery but as a Republican he wished to abolish it.But as the President of America,he made a promise to the Constitution, which protected slavery (http://www.history.com/topics/emancipation-proclamation). Therefore the tension that rose from slavery resulted in constant fighting of the Republicans and Democrats.…

The Health Belief Model, social learning theory (recently relabelled social cognitive theory), self-efficacy, and locus of control have all been applied with varying success to problems of explaining, predicting, and influencing behavior. Yet, there is con ceptual confusion among researchers and practitioners about the interrelationships of these theories and variables. This article attempts to show how these explanatory fac tors may be related, and in so doing, posits a revised explanatory model which incor porates self-efficacy into the Health Belief Model. Specifically, self-efficacy is pro posed as a separate independent variable along with the traditional health belief var iables of perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, and barriers. Incentive to behave (health motivation) is also a component of the model. Locus of control is not included explicitly because it is believed to be incorporated within other elements of the model. It is predicted that the new formulation will more fully account for health-related behavior than did earlier formulations, and will suggest more effective behavioral interventions than have hitherto been available to health educators.…

What is globalization? Does this mean that all countries of the world are becoming the same? Does it mean the integration of economic, political, and cultural systems around the world? Does globalization mean being able to find the same stores and restaurants in every part of the world? Does it mean that individual countries will not be able to make business and trade decisions on their own but will have to consult other countries? If these are the realities of globalization, what kinds of impacts will it have on the way we live? Indeed, the concept of globalization raises many questions and controversial issues. Some argue that globalization is a positive development as it will give rise to new industries and more jobs in developing countries. Others say globalization is negative in that it will force poorer countries of the world to do whatever the big developed countries tell them to do. Another viewpoint is that developed countries, including Canada, are the ones who may lose out because they are involved in outsourcing many of the manufacturing jobs that used to be done by their own citizens. Outsourcing refers to obtaining goods by contract from outside sources. This is why you may find many of your clothes with labels from developing countries such as Malaysia, China, and the Philippines, where they can be produced at lower cost. Critics of outsourcing feel that no one wins with this practice. Workers in Canada and other developed countries may lose their jobs while those doing the work in poorer countries get paid much less while working in poor conditions. What can be done about these realities? Global trade gives Canadians access to many products, such as fruits, that cannot be produced here. Global trade means that produce such as bananas, mangoes, oranges and kiwi fruit are easy to find in our grocery stores. This implies that farmers in developing countries have an opportunity to produce and…
