John Daniels
Jimmie Flores, PhD
Bus 518
January 25 2015

1) Describe the leadership style that Lieutenant Colonel Yaron exhibited as the commander of a battalion for the evacuation operation. Provide three (3) examples of his leadership actions and behavior. Discuss the pros and cons in each example you describe to support the response.
Example one of Lieutenant Colonel Yaron is when a presentation he gave to senior military officers did not yield the result that he thought it would. “One of the officers did not like what he heard, so he reacted by sending a lengthy email to a Brigadier General.”(Laufer) Lt. Col. Yaron inadvertently alienated this officer. This happened because his peers had not been made fully aware by their superiors the importance of the operation in advance. If Lt. Col. Yaron been aware of his peers attitude in advance he would have made it more “determined and sensitive” as he put it. The pro to this is Yaron learned from the experience that he had to dive a bit deeper before presenting his case.
Example two is his handling of the staff that was being sent from the supporting units. He found that the units where not sending their best staff and instead was sending the least motivated troops. “Either because they were not convinced that the evacuation was a crucial mission or simply because they did not want to detract from their ongoing operations by spending energy on it.” (Laufer) He was disappointed in what he found so he devised a plan to get the personnel he needed. First he instructed his team leaders to identify those least suitable for the mission, second he asked all of the feeder units for highly qualified troops which was met with resistance and lastly he went to his superior and advised him that “Without the personal involvement and commitment to the mission on the part of the commanders of the dispatching units, we

Technological innovation drives the growth of Amazon.com to offer customers more types of products, more conveniently and at lower prices. Since 1995, Amazon has significantly expanded its product selection, international retail websites, and worldwide network of fulfillment and customer service centers. Today, Amazon retail websites offer everything from toys and video games to MP3 downloads and collectible items (amazon.com, 2014). Amazon has managed to not only achieve this business model but they have also managed to consistently expand and become the largest online retailer to date. To keep up with global demand, Amazon had to expand its products and services offered while continuing to forecast consumer’s needs. “In 2000, Amazon.com began to offer its best-of-breed e-commerce platform to other retailers and to individual sellers. In an article about the financial problems of USA Today, Newsweek reported that the paper was losing about $20 million a year. A Wall Street analyst said that the paper should raise its price from 50 cents to 75 cents, which he estimated would bring in an additional $65 million a year. The paper's publisher rejected this idea, saying that circulation could drop sharply after a price increase, citing the Wall Street Journal's experience after it increased its price to 75cents. What implicit assumptions are the publisher and analyst making about price elasticity?…

Leadership in war time is a dynamic process. No one particular commander is exposed to the same challenge and implements a textbook solution. While leadership doctrine is provided to commanders, it serves more as a guideline than anything else. This situation can be clearly seen in the leadership and management styles of General Frank Savage and Colonel Keith Davenport. Both of these individuals were faced with the challenge of leading a Bomber Group during World War II. Grossly undermanned and equipped, their directive from command was to give maximum effort and fly their assigned missions until replacement aircraft and personnel could be brought up to the front.…

My goal is to be a leader that influence Soldiers to have the initiative to better themselves. The factor of leadership, the existence or lack of was key on the US forces victory over the Creeks. General Jackson knew the doctrine that would work on each instance of the battle. General Jackson’s actions to split the command and place General Coffee and friendly Cherokees and Creeks on the south to the toe of the peninsula was the element of surprise that the Red Sticks were not able to handle. Just as the Cherokees, I want my Soldiers to have the initiative to excel at work without me micromanaging the shop. The Red Sticks placed themselves behind the barricade and focused on defending the land to the north and once distracted by General Coffee’s forces in the rear, the US forces main effort was able to advance and attack. Certainly, General Jackson demonstrated his superior leadership, whereas, Menawa revealed weakness by not changing his defensive operation. In one example during the Tarmiyah operation, Col Pasquarette planned an operation for a couple of weeks and then briefed Lt Col Saad and his commander on it. After the briefing Col Pasquarrette was not open to inputs from the Iraqi side on how to execute the operation. The problem was the Iraqis should have been invited at the start to help plan it. Lt Col Payne failed because he did not understand Col Pasquarrette’s goals of the operations. Col Pasquarrette did not want violence of the Iraqi method. The other example is Col Pasquarrette alienated the Iraqis when he put up the barriers between the two camps. If Lt Col Payne would have understood his objectives, he could have briefed Lt Col Saad the reasons behind the barrier. The one thing to alleviate the situation between the two parties was what Col Pasquarrette accomplished after the Lt Col Payne got relieved. He brought the MiTT team together, cleared the air, explained his position, and listened to their grievances. If this happened sooner, a better environment would have…
