Abstract
Art has evolved in ways only one can imagine, however; their imagination does not have to go far because all one has to do is turn on the computer and connect to the World Wide Web to get information on everything. Architecture, sculpture, and painting has been around for ages, then photography made its way on to the art scene in the 1820’s and has taken leaps and bounds to establish itself as fine art The evolutions of styles are also examined. The role of diversity in the development of the arts and how it changed throughout the 20th century is examined. The role of women and their influence on the various arts is discussed. The role of ethnic minorities and their influence on the various arts is examined. The relationship between art and popular culture and how this developed during the 20th century is defined. Popular culture and how it influences the arts is explained. The influence of art on popular culture is described. Role of Diversity in the Development of the Arts Before the late 19th century women were not accepted to study into official art academies, and any training they were allowed to have was that of the soft and delicate nature. This may be why that during the early years of the modern feminist art movement, the art often showed “raw” anger from the artist. “The Feminist Art Movement began with the idea that women’s experiences must be expressed through art, where they had previously been ignored or trivialized.” (Napikoski, L. 2011 ) The artists of this movements work showed a rebellion from femininity, and a desire to push the limits. Women artists began to protest at art galleries and institutions that would not accept them or their work. Some also started opening women’s learning facilities of their own, such as Judy Chicago did in 1971, when she established the Feminist Art program at Cal State Fresno. The

American art historian Linda Nochlin’s essay Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists was published in 1988. This essay asks why artistic “greatness” and professional credit has been historically reserved solely for white Western males. While the titled seems facetious, it demonstrates Nochlins’ humor on a complicated issue grounded in social constructs, inequality and sexism. Nochlin notes that the question itself assumes that women are “incapable of greatness.” This assumption is what sparks Nochlin to explore the history of artistic institutions and education systems. From the Rennaisance up until the end of the nineteenth…

The chapel of Raemkai was originally built and decorated for an official named Neferiretnes, traces of whose name and titles can still be made out on the false door. The reuse of the tomb for Raemkai was not probably by royal decree and took place before the reign of Isesi (circa 2381BC). The fine relief decorating the tomb includes a large scene of the hunt in the steppes with lasso and dogs. In one scene an ibex is lassoed, in another, dogs attack a hyena and a Dorcas gazelle while a man leaning on his staff looks on and a hare and a reclining gazelle may be seen in the background.…

This paper is a formal analysis of the Marble grave stele with a family group relief sculpture. It is a pentelic marble style relief standing at 171.1cm tall carved by a master. It is from the Late Classical period of Greek, Attic which was completed around ca.360 B.C. . I chose to analyze this piece as apposed to the others because I’m mainly attracted to art and sculptures from the Greek era. The overall color used in this relief is ivory with a few cracks and pieces broken off. There is some discoloration which causes the color to come off as slightly light brown for most of the relief. The sculpture appears larger compared to the other sculptures in the art room. It represents a family which includes a man, his wife, and their child united on one high relief. There is a fourth character that is a part of the relief but she appears to be incomplete. The high relief contributes to the overall size of this sculpture by expanding the shape and proportions of all the characters. The right side is compact consisting of three of the four characters while the left is loose with just a head present.…

A complex and unclear question throughout the late 20th century and today is did the arts change history or do the arts reflect the changes that are taking place in society? It is a difficult question to answer since art and music have become so increasingly popular over the past 50 years. Also, for this question, no one’s opinion was exactly one and the same. Music and the arts had such a widespread influence on our nation over such a small period of time; it seemed as if it was sometimes hard to comprehend. Art in general became such a talked about subject during the post-WWII years and especially during the American involvement of Vietnam. During these years, and for many to come, art shaped our society in a way that the American people have never seen before. Art gave the American people a great form of expression starting in the 1950s and still plays a major role in our country today. Art had a major influence on the United States during the post-WWII years and that is the reason art changed American history.…

In this essay you will be comparing and contrasting two different types of paintings. The same subject matter but different ideas of the same subject. I will be writing about The Last Supper, which was painted by Giampietrino, after Leonardo da Vinci. He used oil on canvas while painting the piece of art. The year that Giampietrino painted this picture was in 1520. Another work of art that I will be writing about will be The Last supper by Francesco Fontebasso. He painted this picture in 1762 using oil on canvas. As you can see from both types of arts, that they were both painted on oil on canvas and both have the same subject matter which is the last supper that Jesus Christ had. To both of these painting’s in person, you can go to the Royal academy of Arts in London to see the Giampietrino piece and Fontebasso’s piece is found in Museum Fund of the State Hermitage in St Petersburg.…

The political turbulence that characterized the American public of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s produced an environment that became conducive for disenfranchised groups to express their disagreement with the status quo. One of the most significant of these developments was the intense gain in momentum of the feminists, who exposed prevailing sexist attitudes in the art world at the time that reinforced dominantly male museum, gallery, and criticism and excluded works by women in many institutions across the country. This upheaval was catalyzed by leaders of the movement in the art world, such as Judy Chicago and Lucy Lippard, who revealed these biased attitudes with feminist…
