RE: What the letter is about
Dear Mr Thompson,

My name is Jakob. I’m currently Studying in Middlesex University at Barnet. I have recently read your article about social networking and delighted to give you my opinion about social networking. I believe that social networking is destroying teenager’s education. Teenagers spend more time on social networking than revising, helping their parent and spend time with their family.

As I’m a brother of a teenager I could inform you millions of sentences about console games. They spend hundreds of hours a week playing Grand Theft Auto, FIFA, Need For Speed and Call Of Duty. Even parents are the ones I would definitely blame, in my opinion, some games are only allowed to be played if 18 and over. However parents buy war games for their fifteen years old son. These games will build war in their heart, and make them feel aggressive. Yes aggressive. The aggressiveness will lead to children fight in school. In addition to that they will have anger problems. Children with anger problems are 85% from gaming. Do you agree?

I would clearly agree with the American comedian Louis CK ‘’he wouldn’t give his daughter cell phone for fear they wouldn’t develop empathy’’. What Louis CK said is absolutely correct. Children use mobile phones such as IPhone, blackberry and HTC, to communicate without

One out of the many people that disagrees with this argument is Melissa Henson from the Parent Television Council. From Henson’s point of view, she believes that video games make teenagers more violent than they are already are. As she quoted, “Prolonged exposure to violent images, such as violent video games, can result from in more aggressive behavior.” What she is saying is that violent video games should be banned then rather being played by teens since they have way too much violent and gory images which make them violent…

I don't like video games that have guns, sword, or knifes, blood, fighting or robberies things of that nature in them. I truly don’t think that allowing children and even teenagers to play with such harshness is not good for them. I think that parents should pay more attention to these things that we allow our children to entertain themselves with. Yes, it is true everyone needs something to relax with. Especially if they’re coming in from having a bad day at work or school. You want something to help you calm down or even just something to make you feel a little bit better than you do right now.…

Having read your article: ‘Being different will only result in tears’ I can understand your point of view although I can’t help but disagree. Your personal experience may be true, moreover, it is only one story...out of a possible 7 billion! You said that being unique will only mean you are picked on, but in my opinion this is not true as people look up to someone with a new style and it is often emulated, how else would fashions start?…

Halo, Call of Duty, and Gears of War are just three of many grossly popular video games today, and they have one main thing in common: violence. Whether one is shooting down Nazi soldiers on the beaches of Normandy or sawing apart Locust drones on the planet Sera with his or her lancer, one is engaging in extremely violent video-game action, and probably having a lot of fun doing so. With the rapid growth of intensely violent games, parents and politicians across the nation have begun to protest against violence in video games and have even gone as far as to say it is the cause of violence in America’s youth. Is this really true? Are video games the problem? Just like the rock and roll movement of the 1950’s being blamed for youth delinquency,…

Violence is happening all around us and it is said that one of the biggest reason for teen violence, is because of playing video games. It is true that there are many games that due show or portray violence; however the intention was not to promote teens to doing more violence as they are rated for mature adults. Personally I believe that if parents were more active or aware of what games they are purchasing, and became responsible for what games their children are playing then this would cut down teen violence concerning video games. For adults who play video games and are violent, I believe that it is other issues and not the game that makes them violent. Even though people say that video games do cause violence because some games are violent, video games do not cause violence because if video games were what caused violence everyone that plays would be violent and there are other factors that cause violence .…

“Violent Video Games Can Increase Aggression” claims that gamers who are negatively affected by brutal games are more likely to have violent behavior. People with addictive or impulsive personalities are more likely to be violent anyway. This is more of a personality trait than something that is caused externally. “Do video games lead to violence?” states that games like Gears of War, Mortal Kombat, and Pokemon Go are bad because they encourage kids to battle and kill people. Just because a game is violent, does not mean that it is bad. Kids are able to tell what's fake and what's real. “Do Violent Video Games Contribute to Youth Violence?” informs that 60% of middle school boys that played at least one Mature-rated game had hit someone, compared with 39% of boys that did not play M-rated games. It is likely that those who act aggressively are generally more attracted to violent games, and their agitation is not caused by the games themselves. The gaming industry should not be blamed for the actions of an aggressive kid. A great deal of those kids probably had combative tendencies before they started gaming. Although some people believe that violence in games can cause destructive behavior because of certain logic and statistics, these things are not able to prove a direct connection between video games and…

Many gamers use games as stress relievers for their problems. There was a study where they took kids with anger problems, and they let half play a violent video game; while the rest continued on with there lives. Those that played the game were found to be often calmer. Pulling a trigger on a controller does not lead to people pulling actual triggers. After many hours of gameplay players eventually began to see the violence as irrelevant fiction. They begin to focus more on the game instead of awe of the graphics. Sales of video games have more than quadrupled from 1995-2008, while the arrest rate for juvenile murders fell 71.9% and the arrest rate for all juvenile violent crimes declined 49.3% in this same period. The way kids release their emotions through video games helps them control them, and not blow up on people for random moments.…

    Violence In Adolescents

In fact all forms of media are blamed for perceived changes in the pattern of adolescent behavior when they are new. Movies and television shows were both put forward as causes for violence among adolescents. And it was not that long ago that rock and roll was the ‘reason’ that the youth was rebellious. Video games are just one more in a long line of forms of entertainment that have been blamed for the violent adolescents. The reason video games are the hot topic right now is that movies, television, and rock and roll have been around for a long time; they are established. The current decision-makers all grew up with these other forms of entertainment and therefore do not regard them as dangerous. In twenty years, when this generation of adolescents is in charge, it is assured that something else will be to blame because they have grown up with video games and will not view them as inherently…
