How will the course in Art Appreciation help me?
I am student of history who teaches history to students of high school. Though I have a master’s degree in history I call myself a student because I believe that there is no end to learning. I have deep interest in exploring monuments, understanding details of architectural styles and other art forms. Due to my love for the subject I have great curiosity and hunger to understand and learn about the above various art forms. I want to expand my knowledge and want to understand deeper nuances of Gothic, Renaissance and other modern art forms.
I am working as teacher - coordinator of Heritage Club of my school and I am sure that this course will not just enlighten me but will help me to develop greater interest among my students and they too will be able to appreciate art forms.
Photography is another hobby which I pursue and having formal knowledge in this field will help me appreciating various forms of art in a better way and will be reflected in my photos.
I hope this course in art appreciation will surely increase my knowledge and understanding of the universal and timeless qualities of great masterpieces. I hope, it will help me in appreciate and understand the art of different era’s, movements, styles and techniques. I hope you will consider me worthy enough and give me an opportunity to do this course.

Art appreciation is the understanding of the timeless qualities that characterise all great art, and personally i feel is a subjective matter; what I find aesthetically pleasing may not apply to everyone else. There are many reasons why we value art; because it informs us, because of its expressive quality, and because of its artistic quality. In this case, the latter is being discussed, that good art is good because of aesthetic enjoyment of form, the balance and structure and proportion. Its argued that content is not important, just the formal qualities make it good art, for example Jackson Pollock, his work is based on lines and colours and is valued very highly, therefore content is irellevant.…

It is the understanding of the nature or meaning or quality or magnitude of something (http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definition/appreciation ). The knowledge you gain from an experience and the understanding you begin to have from that experience is an appreciation. When you are taught a subject such as fine arts eventually you begin to comprehend and come to know something more about them, which means you now have an appreciation of the fine arts. This appreciation is more of thankfulness for gaining knowledge instead of thankfulness to one person for a deed they have done. You are appreciating the fact that you have learned something new that you can now put to use in your life and future…

Amanda Herring, from Loyola Marymount University, came and spoke to us about the Gate Keeper and Key Master Hekate of Lagina. For a little background, the sanctuary of Hekate was structured in the second half of the BC in Lagina Lagina was occupied by a single sanctuary at the time. The only people who lived on the site were people who lived in the temples. Hekate has a conspiracy over her origin. She first appeared in the literature, the Theogany. In this entry of poems, she had the the second most spaces dedicated her poem, being only after Zeus. This shows the relevance and impact she had in the Greek world, at the time. She was said to have been greatly involved in affairs to humans. She helped out all sorts of people, whether it was children, students, athletes, etc. She was not really depicted in Greek art, but when she was, it was only in limited space.…
